27-2 stripped yoke screw

Here is a source for 5x44 NEF Helicoil: U.N.F Helicoil Kits, Uni-Thread Ltd

Yes, they are in the U.K. but I have ordered from the U.K. a few times in the past and had no problems, just took a little longer,

Thanks again! I sent them an inquiry jus to be sure only because the thread repair kit is listed as 5-44 UNF, but they have nothing else, standalone inserts, or anything else 5-44. I'd imagine its right...but I figured it doesn't hurt to check.

I got the gun back from S&W today after Fedex yesterday claimed they attempted delivery and no adults where home. I was home all day and my security camera shows no Fedex truck came by the house. And the tracking info shows "attempted delivery" and 2 minutes later it was back at the Fedex depot.

Sure...

Their customer service claimed up, down, left, right, and center they attempted delivery.

Anyway, S&W looked at it and shipped it back. Checked "Gun obsolete, no parts" "No nickel finish". I figured that last one was a long shot, but why not ask? It does look like they backed out the Yoke screw to take a look, but didn't perform any fixes.

I cleaned the bejesus out of the hole and the screw with cut Q-tips and carb cleaner to degrease them. Then I reassembled with Blue Locktite this time rather than red. I think it was too oily before and the redlocktite never setup fully. When I took it apart the red locktite looked oily/chunky. Not the way I normally see blue/red locktite once I remove a fastner. I figure the yoke screw isn't holding much force and it is perpendicular to the screw clamping force. It goes back together to at least 1-2in-lb once bottomed out before it seems like it might start to yield. So that plus the blue locktite I hope will hold it.

But I'd like a proper thread repair kit on hand for the next time I need to take the side plate off or yoke and cylinder out. Which will hopefully be MANY years, but the repair kit can sit in my gun parts drawer (okay, drawers) until then if it holds up fine.

I was tempted to use red locktite with it cleaned up properly this time, but I am a little worried it might be a serious PITA to get apart then.

Azazel,

They are the same thing, remember that is a British site.
