Taurus 1911 Question

I found a Taurus 1911 for sale that really has my curiousity stirred up. The slide is completely unmarked except for a small Taurus emblem on the left rear of the slide and 1911 stamped on the right front portion. Other than that the pistol is completely devoid of markings other than the serial number. The serial number matches the paperwork from Taurus along with the number on the case. The manager of the LGS said his supplier said they were a promotional offer, hence the reduced price (299.00). The pistol checked out just fine but the lack of markings has me curious. I tried to contact Taurus but stayed on hold forever and have been unable to find an email address for customer service. I'm thinking that the 1911's may be part of a fallen through contract and Taurus is offering them for sale now but that is pure conjecture. Any suggestions or information would be appreciated.

By the way, the pistol is brand new in the box complete with shipping grease and wrapper.

I have a 6 month old PT1911. I am well pleased with this pistol. For $300.00 I would take it markings or no. All Taurus parts are numbered and the gun is assembled by those matching numbers. It is possible that an order calling for different etching was cancelled. Taurus Forge (English translation) probably just assembled them and sold as unmarked. Did you know that Smith owned 54% of Taurus in 1970 and they shared information. Could tell you a lot more but I'm rambling now. Good shooting.

For $300 I'd suck that right up if it checked out mechanically.....but that's just me, I have a hole in my collection for a shooter grade 1911. I'd buy it and run lots and lots of the cheapest .45 I could find through it.... If it wore out or broke I'd sell it for parts. For $300 if you get 20,000 rounds out of it it's still a steal, even given Taurus' hit or miss QC.

If I already had a good one I'd probably pass. A few hundred more would snag you a nice used S&W 1911 if you get lucky....Should never have sold my Springfield Armory Inc 1911a1......

Rusty I did take it. This is my third Taurus 1911 and I fully believe they are as good as you are going to get without getting into the elevated stratosphere as far as price goes. The normal price for them here in Oklahoma runs around 550-600. I tore it apart and all the pieces are there so I anticipate no problems. By the was he also had PT92's for 279 as part of the same promotion. One of those came home the next day box papers and all

Three hundred bucks for a NIB 1911? How could you go too far wrong?

I've heard good things about the Taurus guns, with some people comparing them favorably with RIA 1911's.

I just paid $399.00 for my second Taurus 1911. This one's a blued .45 while my other, a stainless .38 Super has been a pleasure for a few years now.

Over the last 35 years or so I've owned a pile of 1911's. The Taurus offerings ain't top drawer pistols, but they're far from the junk many may believe them to be.

All that Tauri stuff disappears when I look down the sight picture and time and time again see ragged hole groups.

Sounds like a "buy" to me too!

True, or you could leave it stock and have a decent defense pistol (assuming it works - test it first as you would with any defense gun) at a fantastic price.

Were it me, I would get rid of the FLGR and replace that goofy hammer with the lock.

When American Rifleman tested one it seemed plenty accurate straight out of the box. Two inch groups were the norm, apparently.

Maybe I should look out for that promo around here. Does it have GI style sights or the Novak clones?

Taurus 1911

This has a marked Novak sight. This is the second one I've owned that had a actual Novak. Unfortunately I had to leave town for work the day after I bought it. Pictures and a range report will be coming after I get back home. If it's anything like the other two I've owned I'm sure I will be quite pleased as both of the previous ones, a .45 and a 9mm, were well beyond "combat accurate". as is.

Had a buddy with one, he loved it! Babied it, broke it in. Said he bought it becaucse it was way less than other 1911s. No problems, no misfires, it has been a good gun for him.

Taurus 1911

Range report of Taurus 1911:
As expected pistol was dead on. Firing was conducted with WWB at 15 yards with all shots in the 9/10 ring both slow and rapid fire from standing unsupported. No surprises factory mags actually worked, which was my only complaint with the last one. The PT92 was even better with everything in the 10 ring both slow and rapid (1 sec intervals). More than pleased with both pistols but not really surprised as I haven't ever had a problem with either the 1911 or PT92 series pistols. Pictures will be posted as soon as I can figure out how to get them from my Iphone to the computer and into my posts. Thanks!
