Taurus 82

I picked this one up a few weeks ago pretty cheap. I used to own a 4", Taurus 82 back in the day, and it was a good shooter. I must have put thousands of wadcutters through that one.

This one has a 3" barrel, something I've never owned before. It feels good in the hand. One trip to the range and it shot just fine. The grooves in the cylinder flutes indicate it was made in the mid 70's or so. The T-grip was on it when I got it.





Pay no attention to that missing screw. I was able to find one to replace it.

Nice. I used to be a Taurus fan, until I had to deal with their service department. But the 82, in particular, was a peach. My youngest son still has one. It has always been a nice shooter.

Taurus Firearms tend to be reliable workhorse firearms, the problem is that their Customer Service is so abysmal that when a lemon comes along they make the process of repairs/replacement into such a baffling ordeal that it leaves a bad taste in customers mouths and by the time they get their firearm back from the factory the customer is so fed up with it that they immediately sell the firearm then walk away so bitter that the very mention of the brand provokes them to tell their story, which in turn creates the illusion that all Taurus products are junk.

Sadly, that's what happens when your Customer Service is poor, it leads to a bad reputation by word of mouth, which in turn leads to diminished sales. Granted that Taurus has been hurting for money since they lost millions on that drop safety lawsuit, but that in itself is also an example of their poor Customer Service, as I very much doubt that they weren't made aware of the issue from customers who experienced it without injury, but rather than investigate it or issuing a recall, they decided to write it off as isolated incident until someone was injured and it all spiralled out of control.

Unfortunately, now the damage has been done and even if Taurus truly does make a dedicated effort to improve QA/CS upon getting their new plant up and running in Georgia, it's going to take a long time to undo the negative reputation which currently proceeds them.
