Taurus 905

I saw a neat little Taurus 905 at a LGS. It’s a 5 shot 9mm about J frame size, spurless hammer. I know about Taurus’s spotty QC, low resale, yadda, yadda. I didn’t buy it but if it was is stainless I might be tempted.
I’ve toyed with the idea of converting a 60 in .357 to 9 but never seriously persued it.
I think the conversion would be in the same vicinity as the Taurus.
If I didn’t have other matters coming due I might have “pulled the trigger”(pun intended).

I bought a 5 shot 45 acp Taurus revolver in 2005 , model 455 .
LOVE IT ! It loads with full moon clips and can be shot without them ...poke out empties with a pencil , pick the out or just shake the gun inverted...the cases will fall out !!! Tight tolerances , well made and fitted , even with a just 2" ported barrel the accuracy is amazing...it will out shoot my my two 1911's and one is a Gold Cup . I will never sell it..have had 0 problems and it's fun to shoot !
Taurus has come a long way since the old days .
Have no fear... Look over one at LGS and if it meets with your approval

If I wanted a 9mm revolver...that would be my pick .

I have a Taurus 455 (45 acp) and a 445 (44 special). Both are stainless, but the 445 is a high polished finish. Both are fantastic shooters and have given me no troubles at all.

Both were traded into with an approximate trade value of $350 to $375. I'm very happy with them.

Yup, I've been really lucky with the half dozen Taurus/Rossi guns I've bought. No problems with any of them.

I have seen a lot of rookies struggling with low end Taurus' at CCH qualification and the range. It just seems to be predominately low end Taurus' (or their owners) that have problems. I have no problem buying guns made in Europe or Asia, but Latin America (perhaps irrationally) scares me. My mantra had always been that "Friends do not let friends shoot Taurus", although many here have enjoyed a Taurus at half the price of a comparable S&W. I hear particularly positive reports on the Taurus PT1911. I have no problem with Rock Island which many here look at as I do Taurus. I guess we build our prejudices to keep from buying too many guns. Happy, safe shooting whatever you have.

I think the model 85 was the Revolver that Taurus did best. I have owned 4 and they were all good guns.

I’ve been very tempted by the little Taurus guns, especially now with the rebates. Just for another revolver to shoot or stash in the house. That 905 is tempting just for a fun 9mm gun to shoot at work on the range. But I am cautious is Taurus.

Yep well said, and I've had an equal number of both... Okay, that's not fair. about a 3/1 ratio of three good ones to each piece of complete junk. After the last piece of junk, I swore of playing the handgun lotto and started sticking with S&W or Ruger. There are two old Taurus 65's that I miss.

I own half a dozen Taurus revolvers and all are just fine, but I have heard of a horror story or two.

So if you are uncomfortable with them just convert a S&W. After all if you do not have confidence in your firearm you will not practice enough and you probably will not carry it enough

While my 940s left the factory chambered in 9MM Parabellum, I lengthened the chambers so I could shoot 38 SUPER in them

My PC 940 Specials left the factory chambered for 356TSW and I am just fine with that cartridge

However, I have converted two of my 627s into convertibles with the second cylinder chambered for 9x23 Winchester. Obviously just like you can shoot all the shorter cartridges in a 357 Magnum cylinder, the 9x23 Winchester cylinder allows all of that family's cartridges to be used. That includes 38 SUPER, 38 ACP, 356TSW, 9x21, 9MM Parabelllum, 380 ACP and more

About 15+ years ago this pinto 627 left the factory chambered for 357 Magnum. The second cylinder was chambered for 9x23 Winchester

This year I decided I wanted a pin gun. So I took a 627 V-comp and had a second stainless cylinder rechambered to 9x23 Winchester. My old pin gun was a 625 V-Comp that I used to shoot 45 SUPER in

You can always find a 357 Magnum cylinder on one of the various auction sites. My cylinders have been rechambered by Mark at Pinnacle, but TK Custom is known for good work as well

I bought a Taurus 905 new in the box last spring, one of the pre-2017 made guns with the unlimited warranty, and took it home.

When I got home, I discovered it was not cut properly for the moon clips that came with it (i.e. the cylinder would not enter the frame with the moon clips installed). I took it back unfired.

It had to go back to the mothership, a process estimated to take about 4 months. They shop offered me a refund and I took it, figuring I could always buy it again when it came back to the shop.

I have not, in large part because I can get my 3" SP101 in .357 Magnum or my 3" S&W Model 60 modified for 9mm and moon clips for about $350 and it's a better option overall.

If the 905 had actually accepted 9mm in moon clips I'm not sure I would have been very happy with it. The moon clips themselves were very soft and very easy to bend, so it would not have been very practical in any kind of serious use.
