Anyone have it yet? The few reviews I've watched are impressive.

Fun store has them for $299.....fighting the urge thinking $199 in six months.

With Taurus's track record, $199 in six months, discontinued in 12 months and completely unsupported.

Too many other good 22lr plinker options out there to even consider a Taurus.

Did you overlook they are custom tuned competition pistols?:D

I'm gonna get one.....while they're still custom-tuned!

Despite it all, I did manage to overlook it's a Taurus!
Eerily similar in shape, size and function of the Glock 19.
Plastic guide rod and magazines, squared off trigger guard, field strips by pulling down the lever, then pulling the trigger, striker fired.... and runs without hiccups. Eerily similar!

Running rounds thru it flawlessly.....don't think it'll ever be a bullseye pistol.
It's a light polymer 17.5 ounces with a short take-up, fantastic resetting trigger that does feel like glass breaking from a solid wall. It also comes with a threaded barrel and adapter for mounting suppressors and 2 sixteen round mags.

It'll either get better with more shooting( getting better with each magazine) or break.....longevity is my only question.

I like it!

Glad to hear your positive report! I too have considered adding one to my .22 accumulation. Although it isn’t going to be a bullseye gun, it looks like a good woods and casual targe pistol. I’ll be checking it out when the LGS gets them in.

I often wonder just how many folks who recommend against buying Taurus brand firearms have actually owned one themselves.

Honestly, I can't help but notice how the vast majority of folks who make negative comments about Taurus have no personal anecdotes regarding the supposedly poor quality of their products.

I've said it before and I'll say it as many times as the subject is raised, in terms of actual quality/reliability, Taurus brand firearms are pretty much equal to Ruger, the difference is that Taurus' Customer Service is absolutely terrible, ergo when someone gets a lemon and has to go through the process of playing telephone tag with Taurus' inept CS Representatives then pay for shipping, they tend to become so frustrated by the whole ordeal that it leaves them with a deservedly negative opinion of the company, which in turn often ends with them selling the firearm off upon its return, then telling the negative tale of their experience online, thus creating the illusion that Taurus firearms in general are of poor quality/reliability that they need to be returned.

Unfortunately, that's what happens when people neglect to mention when something goes well (i.e. according to plan) yet are very quick to tell tales of when something goes wrong in detail.

Bottom line, if you actually examine a Taurus brand firearm prior to purchase like you should honestly be doing with any brand to begin with to confirm that it works, then you can be fairly certain that it works and will continue to work as long as it is properly maintained.
You can argue all day that you don't have to examine or function test a Smith & Wesson, but try telling that to the folks who post threads about their newly purchased S&W with a canted barrel or any number of mechanical issues you may hear of. Also, keep in mind that said S&W probably costs anywhere from $150 to $500 more depending on what it is.

I'm definitely in @ $129. I got my last TP 22 for $99, slide cracked under the barrel, they welded it up, put a rubber pad over the weld and shipped it back. Sold immediately. Joe

I'm about 1500rounds in since yesterday.... the silencer thread protecting nut worked loose and probably accounted for the 3 misfeeds in 700rounds..... tightened it and no further problems.

The barrel gets extremely hot when both mags have been dumped....this is definitely a problem .... which will cause the excellent trigger to fail.... the 22 plincster has a review on Utube .

Taurus Customer Service answered my call today inside of 1minute. Told the representative that my serial number would not load into the online warranty base... Asking my serial number again , it's stated that the number is wrong..... HUH????

Service Rep immediately says oh it's a TX22 .... they are in a different database....: we immediately favorably discussed the new design and it's attributes.

Service Rep tells me that this TX22 was warranty registered on the date the distributor took possession.... so do you need my name for the warranty registration? NOPE.....your pistol is automatically registered...... Sooooo? If I gave it away tomorrow? It's covered under warranty in the current possessors name? Yep, your name is not attached to the warranty..... a hi-point owner lifetime transferable warranty...if you will!

PS: I'm usually not a beta tester.... but this 1st gen TX22 is the one you want! :):)

I have owned Taurus guns before and they all had issues. I would only consider this for training my kids with, nothing more. The capacity is the most interesting feature to me.

The capacity caught my attention as well. I bought a Ruger SR22 shortly after they came out and really liked the size & weight for a 22 plinker. But the 10 round magazine was a bummer. I have a Taurus G2 9mm that is flawless (so far), and an older stainless model 455 snub nose 44 special. Both are sticking around. If I run across one of these for a couple hundred or so, I'll give it a try.

I would prefer it without a threaded barrel, but it's not a deal breaker. Nor is the name "Taurus".

Speaking of Taurus, my one and only is a model 970 wheeler, vintage 2001, in 22lr. It's been a flawless shooter. I recently installed a Wolff hammer and trigger spring. The trigger break reduced from 5 + pounds to a crisp 2 3/4 - 3 pounds.

The thing shoots as accurately as you can hold it. I've been well pleased, esp at the cost of $250, new at the time.

I thought my Taurus 605 was just fine (despite the rough finish on the hammer and trigger) until I compared it to several s&w's. It's no where near as accurate as my s&w 638 or my 36. Not by a long shot.

Here's my Taurus experience.....the stainless is 9mm....I've carried the TCP380(has never malfunctioned) as well as both 1911's, all function 100%, with big name aftermarket magazines..The TX22 is around 2200 rounds now....I'm gonna shoot it till it breaks.... cleaned the striker block today, it's as simple as glocks:)

Mt Taurus experiences:

When they initially came out with their 1911 I requested one from Taurus to evaluate for my Dept. The sent me their 1911 and a couple of their other carry guns which I no longer recall. A 9mm and a 40. Neither I or my helpers put many rounds through the 9 or 40 as they were so unreliable as to be nothing but aggravating. The 1911 was rock solid and 100% reliable and I put at least 500 rounds through it. I wish I'd tried to buy it off them. However, the Dept. declined to approve it for use being a Taurus. Oh well!

I also have a Taurus/Rossi 357 lever. It's been very reliable but not smooth at all or accurate. Sorry I bought it.

I also have a 9mm PT111 G2. It's been very reliable but I did have an older aluminum Blazer round rupture. It eroded the chamber rather badly. Surprisingly badly for a 9mm rupture. Soft metal?? They won't sell you a barrel at a reasonable price. They won't sell you a barrel period. You have to send it in and by the time you pay for shipping, to and from, the barrel and labor you're better off just buying another gun. You can't tell me the barrels on those inexpensive guns are hand fit. The gun still works but I keep expecting a stuck case. Otherwise the gun was a very good value. Not the best trigger but I've seen worse.

That's my Taurus experience. They can be good guns for the money but you take your chances.

My understanding was Taurus bought out the 1911 Brazilian Beretta plant.... lock stock and barrel. The plant, employees, machinery, tooling, blueprints and patents. In my opinion, Taurus 1911's are high quality Beretta equivalents.

You're a bit off. Beretta doesn't make 1911s, and Taurus bought the Beretta plant back in the 1980s. It's the Taurus PT92 (a derivative of the original Beretta 92) that Taurus produced using the blueprints, tooling, and workforce they had acquired when they purchased the plant.

The Taurus PT1911 is a much more recent venture for Taurus. (IIRC, the PT1911 first hit the market in 2007.)

I think the rep is wrong...warranty does not extent to subsequent owners according to the written warranty as posted on their site LINK

which reads like this:

What does the warranty cover and what is its duration?

Taurus warrants to the original purchaser that the enclosed firearm was made free of defects in material, function, and workmanship. Taurus promises to remedy any defect in material, function or workmanship for the entire time that the original purchaser owns the firearm. This warranty covers the firearm’s finish, grips, magazines, sights or accessories for the first year. Any claims of defect related to lasers must be directed to the manufacturer of the laser. This warranty terminates automatically upon the transfer of this firearm to any individual or entity other than the original purchaser.

In any case I'll be buying a TX22.

Thanks for the correction....My SOP is always a little off!:D

Had a good conversation with a service rep about the warranty.
He said a name is not attached to the warranty,Wasn't interested in my name at all when registering the pistol....only the original sales receipt will be needed if the warranty is used. If I gift or sell someone this pistol, they will also receive the original receipt. Maybe a don't ask don't tell deal?

EDIT: Haa ....just looked at a different receipt from the same store....My name and address is boldly plastered on it

Your price beat mine by $16.... plus an hour round trip driving. I still think they'll settle down and get cheaper.

2700 rounds and the plastic guide rod is a little chewed up on the forward spring contact point..... hasn't gotten any worse since around 500 rounds though. This pistol is showing very little wear.

Loading the magazines in the conventional manner without using the finger assist knobs prevents hiccups..... in other words, the double stacked magazines are sensitive in how they are loaded.

Shooting buddy shot and admired it yesterday.... he called it accurate after consistently ringing the 50yard steel right outta the gate!

My TX22 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, but I won't be available so will pick it up along with a Ruger Lite 43927 that arrives on Friday.

With the ease of takedown and assembly, I've kept this one clean and lubed at least every couple hundred rounds.

The magazines are supposed to be stamped as 1 and 2, these are both stamped #1..... you may get 2 number two's:D

The Brownings, Rugers and Smiths' will accurately shoot lights out with optics's.....the TX22; is definitely the Glock of the bunch.

Although not an exceptional marksman..... I still have a lot of fun trying!

Today's shootout with iron sights and old eyes.... 15rounds each

One, don't compare it to a steel-framed target gun. It just isn't.

Two, why would you buy the Taurus when you can have a Walther P-22 for less money? You'll definitely have a much easier time shooting the Walther, since you won't have to wear a bag over your head like the Taurus.
