A North Carolina teen found out the hard way that she shouldn't make profanity laced comments on Facebook about her dad and step-mom being lazy because she had to do chores around the house. Dad took exception to the comments and videotaped himself shooting her laptop 8 times. The teen had apparently also said something derogatory about her mom because dad said in the video, "Your mom said to shoot it once for her," and added a ninth hole in the piece of ex-electronics. He did say she could get another laptop...when she was on her own or in college...and paid for it herself!

Apparently he has now been offered a reality show. What will they call it? American Laptop Killers? H-P Homicide? Dell Decimation?

Saw that on the Net. Didn't click on it. Figured it was just another jab at gun owners. Wondered if a .45 bullet would richochet off the computer.

Guy comes off a little red-neck to start but then states he works IT and spent the day before installing about $130 worth of software upgrading her computer. The .45 HP definitely did not bounce off and we didn't get to see the backside of said 'puter, just the front but it put nice round holes in it. I really think he used admirable restraint. I most likely would have used five rounds from a Mossberg with 00 Buck.

Man brought the threat of deadly force into a family situation. I have no respect for him, his methods, or his taste for public humiliation. The way I figure...he wants to see where his lousy kid came from, all he's got to do is look in the mirror.

At least one of them's got a reason for acting like a spoiled teenager.

Holy Molly! Chores... What is that man thinking! That child has entitlement. Face book comments about the parents, would have like to seen the comments. I think the child should have turned them in to the DFS for rough treatment by that dad.

I would have never posted on Youtube. I think I would have just thrown the laptop in a lake somewhere. Let the kid swim for it.....

I have to agree with John on this one. It made me sick to watch the whole thing. He's had millions of hits so far that have humiliated his juvenile daughter . . . and she is not old enough maturity-wise to handle this type of humiliation.

He may have "lost" her for life. What a jerk.

Nice .45 though. It looks like a rarely used, late 1980's Colt Series 80 . . . and the guy started by thumb-cocking the chambered .45.

You don't shoot the prized possessions of your teenagers and not have it affect them in waves of hopelessness, fear and despair. Terrible judgement that will affect that entire family for the rest of their lives probably.

He didn't just kill her laptop, which she has no hope of replacing and needs for classes these days . . . but he also killed her self-esteem by running down a list of things she does and doesn't do to the world. What kind of dad would do this to someone he loved?

The tongue can be a sound of blessings and edification to those we love, or a terrible sword speaking curses and condemnation on our children. He chose to curse and condemn rather than bless and lift up. How terrible.

It amazes me.....the emotional things Facebook drives people into doing. :D

The Dad proved that his daughter comes by her attitude *honestly*.

Glad they're not my neighbors.

jfb, tt, kudos- you show uncommon wisdom in your perception of the situation. While it's easy to get vicarious thrill when we see these kind of shenanigans, it takes a little more experience and compassion to see the big picture. Rash acts rarely inspire confidence or respect in those that they are directed at.

He better hope she doesn't buy a 45 before she buys a laptop. No telling what their will be holes in if she really said all of those things he claims she posted on Facebook.

I watched the video and she doesn't show any respect for him at all.

"He can get his own Damn coffee."

Father and daughter have a lot more problems than Facebook. Looks like she gets her immature nature from her father. I hope some sane adult will offer a little sanity to these two, guns NEVER should be introduced into family discord.

Since the story mentions a "step mom" nobody knows what that girl has done to be a brat and drive a wedge between dad and stepmom.
Seems like "he cut off his nose to spite his face". He could have accomplished the same thing by wiping the drive, and letting the girl live without the use of it for a while.
Since it's on u tube it will probably embarrass the girl amongst her peers. Not a good thing in today's society. On the other hand it may improve her status amongst her peers via the notoriety.
If she bad mouthed her parents 50 yrs ago she couldn't sit down for a week.
A real Redneck woulda took a pee on the laptop, and saved the ammo.

I hate to say this but I am on the fence with this one and I did see the video.

1. The man has a nice 1911.
2. The .45 made some impressive holes in the computer.
3. His child deserved his doing so. Nobody here mentioned she cursed and used some very vile language in describing her parents on Facebook.
4. The child refused to do simple chores because she was too busy with Facebook and other sites.
5. His wife (the mother of the girl) supported his action with the computer.
6. Other means of punishment did not work.

How many here has taken a car, bike or whatever from a child? I took a car away from my middle daughter and sold it. Her next car was going to come at the expense of someone else. Her being embarrassed by the car being taken had an effect on her. I was not going to shoot up her car due to the resale value but she was not going to use it to run with some low life friends that were selling drugs.

I want to know what those here that objected to his actions would have handled it. I will also say no child of mine will get in my face and curse her mother and I. It is my belief that those here feeling sorry for the girl would not allow such behavior either.

Now for the flip side.

1. He likely committed a crime by his actions. If the property had been given to her, it was not his to destroy.
2. It would have been easier to take her internet account away.

I guess I am the old foggy here. I am no fan of alex baldwin or his politics and egotistical spoiled boy attitude. He took a lot of heat for that deal of yelling at his daughter and her tapeing it. Probley even his liberal friends didnt like it. It is the sole one thing I know of that he did that I give him him credit for.

As a pup, the kind of attitude and lack of respect for her parents would have landed me some lumps and bruises.
Her humiliation? Please... most kinds now have the hollywood view on publicity.
Yes, her dad shot up her laptop... but she is now internet famous.
I had a no toys in the living room rule... had it since the kids were able to understand.
They would still bring stuff into the living room.
I didnt shoot it, I beat it to pieces with a hammer and threw it in the trash.
It started off as just tossing it, but the sneaks would fish it out when nobody was looking.
And no, I didnt buy replacements.
I say good on her father.
She is a minor, that laptop was purchased by him... and he retains ownership.
He told her, if she did it again... he would put a bullet thru it.
She did it again, he followed thru. This showed the girl he wasnt talking out of his arse, and would follow thru on his statements.
Not doing so would have put him a step closer to being an empty suit.

You support him belittling her and calling her names?
"Hey, I want to tell you something, OK? And I want to leave a message for you right now. 'Cause again, it's 10:30 here in New York on a Wednesday, and once again I've made an axx of myself trying to get to a phone to call you at a specific time. When the time comes for me to make the phone call, I stop whatever I'm doing and I go and I make that phone call. At 11 o'clock in the morning in New York and if you don't pick up the phone at 10 o'clock at night. And you don't even have the (expletive) phone turned on. I want you to know something, OK?"

"I'm tired of playing this game with you. I'm leaving this message with you to tell you you have insulted me for the last time. You have insulted me. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the axx who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."

"And when I come out there next week, I'm going to fly out there for the day just to straighten you out on this issue. I'm going to let you know just how disappointed in you I am and how angry I am with you that you've done this to me again. You've made me feel like sxxx and you've made me feel like a fool over and over and over again. And this **** you pull on me with this expletive phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother and you do it to me constantly and over and over again. I am going to get on a plane and I am going to come out there for the day and I am going to straighten your *** out when I see you."

"Do you understand me? I'm going to really make sure you get it. Then I'm going to get on a plane and I'm going to turn around and come home. So you'd better be ready Friday the 20th to meet with me. So I'm going to let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are. You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, OK?

He made an *** out of himself trying to get to a phone to call her?
He has a cell phone... it goes something like this.
"Excuse me, I need to step away for a moment to make a phone call to my daughter."

I am divorced, my kids live with their mother.
Phonecalls can be forgotten, happens all the time.
Leave messages, if the kids wish to talk with you... they will call you back.
If they dont, then find out what is up.
I will remove privileges, I will spank them, I will remove objects.
I will never talk down to them.

"JcMack" mentioned something about the daughter's peers making fun of her after this, or possibly the positive noteriety from them because of it. I don't know what they'll think because, contrary to popular belief, my brain has fully developed beyond my teenage years. But are kids really able to get embarrassed nowadays? They freely send nude pictures of themselves to boyfreinds, voyeuristically watch stuff like Jersey Shore where people get celebrity status by exposing their entire lives to the whole world. Every celebrity who has a slightest problem writes a book and every one of them conveniently was molested which gets them instant sympathy and off the hook. This is the world we live in now. There's no going back. And this dad reacted in the way his daughter and other kids who hopefully learn something from this would understand.
But I'm sure the Child Protection Agency will be dragging the daughter away to a foster home. I mean, her dad owns a gun and, god forbid, smokes cigarettes.

I notice her blood mother didnt have custody. That tells me a lot. Its next to impossable for the father to get custody IF the mother fights for her.
I once seen a cartoon. Showed the divoriceing couple in the lawyers office with a tough looking boy and the lawyer is telling them, "Well, one of you has to take him!"
My daughter was tough, I had a super bad divorice with her mom, fought for custody and lost. To this day she is super tough and independant. She quit school in the 6th grade and refused to go. Her mother gave me custody=====just long enough for me to pay for a lawyer to start reverseing the court decision. I made her go to school for one week. That weekend she went to visit her mother. She decided to live with her mom! She did the home schooling thing. Never did go back to regular school but still graduated. I have many storys on that score.
In this society you cant corporal punish a kid. Not so in the 40s and 50s when I grew up. The next generation after that, quickly learned they could finger the disaplineing parent at school and get them in trouble. My wife tells me what happened to her. She was divoriced, raiseing two girls and a rebelious boy. He pulled a biggey and she took a belt to his butt. He purposely slid down and she wacked him once on the back leaveing a mark. He went to school and showed the teacher. She almost lost her kids. Yup, we are a sophisticated gentil soceity. We know better.
