Tell me about Model 39 please

This Smith & Wesson collector has roughly 30 (thirty) 39 and 39-2s, combined.

A search of Gunbroker.com auctions involving ONLY the 39-2 and having tossed a high-end $1,625 regular run-of-the-mill 39-2, along with unusual offerings like "Steel Frame!" and etc., produced 17 39-2 handgun sales beginning April 13, 2015 through this date. In all, there were 25 ea. 39 and 39-2s sold at Gunbroker.com during that time period.

Having dredged some archaic skills known to some as "UGH!" and others as basic arithmetic, the average price paid came in at $475 ea., or $25 off what the seller of the above wished to get for his 39-2 as noted in the original inquiry.

Having said that, this member likewise agrees with an above contributor who suggested (summed): "Bicker." And why not? If the guy is intransigent, then one can still agree to a higher price. Still, it's likely he'll come down some amount - the ol' "bird in hand; two in bush thing" - but it is also possible the seller has kept abreast of market conditions. Retailers who don't soon retire penniless.

Not doubting that some have had a bad experience with their own 39 or 39-2, with another 120 ea. 9mm S&W generations one through three in my personal collection, the 39 is what started that collection and, I'll guarantee, the 39s and 39-2s - excepting one - I've fired are all excellent guns, malfunctions being absent in all, save the aforementioned. Its "problem" was a too-tired barrel, remedied with a spare acquired through ebay.

Insofar as S&W 9mm handguns and yours truly are concerned, the only other two outstanding models (and variations of those models) are the 3913/14 and the 469/669/6906.

I'm certain others will opine differently, but that's exactly why S&W, as well as other gun makers, produce many different models and variations of those models with respect to the particulars possessed by those who buy them.
