Tell me about NEW 9mm FS guns

I want to expand my inventory of polymer guns. I LIKE my new Gen 4 Glock. Seems to NOT have the ejection issues some have had. VERY accurate, etc. I do need the Grip Force adapter to prevent Glock bite. I am looking at a S&W MP FS as a next buy, because the triggers on the stock guns seem to have improved, the ergos are good, and I don't need a stock adaptor. Also, a dealer close buy has a smokin' LE price.

The thing holding me back is the "FS 9mm accuracy issue". This has been well documented in some guns and seems to be the barrel slide fit. When I ask to see one at the store, and they can disassemble it (which seems too hard), the barrel/slide fit DOES seem pretty lose. I mean, when you take the recoil spring out, there is PLENTY of play in the hood area. More than ANY semi-auto I've seen. So... I am holding off.

I would not be real happy if it was substandard accuracy, and needed a new custom barrel for another $200 as some seem to need.

Do you really need to twist the grip bottom, and flick a lever on the inside to take the gun down? Sheeesh.

Thanks!

You can take down the M&P without using the takedown tool that holds on the backstrap.

About accuracy...unfortunately mine shoots exactly where I have it pointed :)

The only way to actually learn the true story of how well a firearm will work for you is to get one and live with it for a while. The Internet does not always tell the truth.

I am very happy with my M&P 9mm fullsize pistol and have never regretted purchasing it.

Your results might be different.

I don't drink Glock coolaide. I am pleased with my G19, but am not certain their ejection issues are solved, and its a long drive to get one at an acceptable price.

Again, how are those newer MP9's? I understand the barrel has been changed.

If I could get a SW that is as accurate, I'd me MORE than happy.

First, not all guns have an accuracy problem. For me, even if I got an M&P that shot 4-5" groups at 25yds, I would STILL put a fitted barrel in the gun because the improved accuracy (down to .50-1" groups) is nice (especially if you can take advantage of it).

No you NEVER need to remove the grip pin. You can either lock the slide to the rear, throw the lever forward, release the slide and pull the trigger to disassemble OR stick a pen, knife, etc into the gun, throw the yellow lever and take the gun apart the normal way.

The changes to the barrel (at this point) were to address them breaking (nothing to do with accuracy).

So, this may be a random manufacturing problem, and only in the 9mm FS line? (Don't hear any of this on the Compact, etc.)

What is the best aftermarket barrel?

Yes, it is random. It shows itself in the FS & 5" guns the most (9mm).

I have tried various aftermarket barrels with little to no luck. That is why I contacted Storm Lake about making oversized barrels for us (so that we could fit them to the slide). By doing this, we ensure an exact fit which in turn produces fantastic accuracy (1" groups).

It is my understanding that the S&W shooting team are running these fitted SL barrels (clue).

NOTE: I always encourage people to benchrest their handgun (off a bag) and shoot multiple 5rd groups @ 25yds before buying or changing anything.

I own 4 CZs. They ARE accurate. Don't worry, if CZ pulled its head out of its butt and made a lighweight gun with a manual safety, I would not be thinking about other guns (at least as much). But, CZ UB likely has too many socialists running the company, so this won't happen. :(

My CZ has a manual safety and can be carried cocked and locked. Maybe I am not clear about what you are talking about though. Mine is the CZ 75 SP01 Shadow TARGET Custom.

As stated: CZ WILL NOT MAKE a lightweight standard production gun with a manual safety.

They make guns for Western European social democracies in general, and really don't care what they sell here - that they sell here at all with those funky decockers is a testament to the quality of the gun. Yes, the P07 CAN have a manual safety, but has a host of issues. They NEED to make a P02 or other compact gun with a manual safety.

Your Shadow is a superb gun, but big and heavy, and well out of what I want to put into a backup to a carbine.
