I am taking a long hard look at the Performance Center 627, 5" 8 Shot 357 magnum. It seems to have everything I want - and if it's anywhere near as good as my 629PC, I'd be ecstatic.

Is there anything I should know about this before I jump in head first? I know there have been issues with the ILS when it came out - but it's hard for me to believe a PC gun ILS would fail, with the amount of attention they slather these guns with. Also is there a moonclip loader for 8 rounds 38/357?

I've also seen a used V Comp J Miculek model on gunbroker - it has no ILS, and it has the removable compensator. Seems to be going way high on the bids though - and I think I'd like to get a new or NOS one. Would there be an advantage to finding the JM version?

I have been drooling over these for days now... it's getting harder every day to not get one sent my way!

I have a pre-lock example and it's been a good shooter. Action was decent out of the box...didn't take much to make it better.

I have one, and it goes to the range with me every time I go.
Initially it was very inaccurate as it had a canted barrel. I sent it back to S&W, and now it is much more accurate than I am.

Mine has the internal lock, which I have had no problems with, but I have a "plug" to install when I get the opportunity to remove it, because I just don't like the darn things.

I don't know what more to tell you other than I have quite a few revolvers to pick from including a couple of 6" Pythons, which are very similar to the 5" 627, and the 627 is definitely one of my absolute favorites, and would be one gun that I wouldn't part with.

Best Wishes,
Tom

I have one. I use it (and my 617) for Steel Challenge. It's a blast.

I don't know that they're significantly better than any typical standard S&W revolver or a Pro Series gun, but they're definitely nice!

The used 5" PC guns can be found for $750 if you're patient and a little lucky.

FWIW I didn't think the V-comp 627s had any marketing association to Miculek; though I could easily be wrong. He was associated to a titanium version of the 3?/627.

If you want one I don't see much reason to not get one. It's great fun in Steel Challenge and other action pistol games. I am curious how it'd compare to the lighter RR8 models in the action games, but doubt either would matter much.

Have a PC627-5, prefer the smooth trigger over the JM groved and also like the grips better though have changed them for Ahrends. Really like the gun and moon clips. Shoot plates but only as a fun sport not necessarily competitively, only with myself. Hate it when I always lose.

Shot mine today! I've had it for a number of years but hadn't shot it in quite a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. :-)

The trigger was nice straight out of the box and it's way more accurate than I am. What's not to love about it?
