Tell me about the Ruger M77

I have one in 6mm rem and it is a nice light well balanced rifle. If you can't find a gun smith to work the trigger the timney drop-in trigger is excellent.

While I'm a fan of the mannlicher stocks I wonder what it would do the weight and balance of the M77 in terms of how it handles in the field. To me this is one of the great strengths of the gun in that it has just enough heft to it to be a good field shooter but it doesn't weigh so much that you dread taking to the field.

I saw a Ruger 77 .243 with a Mannlicher stock at a local shop today with what seemed to be a good price. It was $400 with rings I was tempted but know next to nothing about the Ruger 77s other than they seem to be a Mauser based action.

I am in the market for a nice .243 sporting rifle for a hunting trip this fall and was saving up for a Kimber

My questions are:

1. Are they as robust as all the other Ruger products?

Yes.

2. How are thier triggers?

Good for factory rifles.

3. Should I keep saving for the Kimber, or blow my wad on the Ruger Mannlicher (i've always had a thing for mannlichers)?

I would only buy the Ruger if it were the Mark II version or newer. Mark IIs have the Pre-64 Winchester features, such as controlled round feed and fixed blade ejector.
