Tell me about your 329 PD

I thought of getting a 329PD but bought a 329NG instead. Shorter barrel, and only 3 oz heavier. No issues with the lock. Easy to carry OWB. Full house magnum loads are attention getters but even at my miserable age of 60 I have no trouble with it, and it is a pussycat with .44 sp. I reload so I can tailor the load.....

I've had one for 4-5 years. Shot it enough that it had to go back to S&W for a new frame, the early guns didn't have a big enough "blast shield" above the cylinder gap. It started to get gas cut.
Mine really likes 280gr WFN's over 21.5 gr WW296. 3" groups at 50 yds. Probably the best shooting 44 I own.
Recoil is stiff, but just remember it won't really "hurt" you. I work with my hands, they're probably a little numb. My buddy who is a computer guy wanted to shoot it, after the first shot he acted as if he'd been electrocuted, dancing around shaking his hand. He watched me shoot 4 rounds and damned if he didn't have to try it again! Same results.
After mine came back from the S&W repair center I was going to trade it off. I spent a weekend carrying it as my CCW, now it's gonna stay.

329 pd

I've had one since they first came out and it is my every day carry gun. I've had to send mine back to the factory twice to replace the top strap shield; but then, that's because I shoot mine a lot. I did find that the X-frame Hogue grips are a welcome addition. I traded both of the original grips for the X-frame grips when I sent my gun back. I've had no problems with the lock. My standard carry load is 18g of 2400 behind a 429421 hollow point boolit.

I was the first kid on block to own a 329 PD and it has been not only my constant companion hiking, hunting, and woods, carry. Since I live in a rural area it is also my CCW carry firearm.

Thanks again for all the replies. I have informed my local pusher:D to order me one next time he needs to round out an order to get free shipping. My dealer takes care of me. It's good to have a buddy like that:D

I've got my eye on one. I'm waiting for someone to buy it, fire it once, and return it. They get a lot of big bore handguns in trade virtually new.

Troubles

Bought my 329PD new, was unable to make it to range for several months. 1st firing was at our low light qualification and I was shooting it with 44 spec. After 18 rounds, the cylinder would not close, thinking it might be a bad rim on ammo,I ejected the 6 rounds and the cylinder still would not close. Qualified with my OLD Charter Arms Bulldog Pug with SAME ammo, no issues. Contacted S&W last week and am waiting to return it for repair. I REALLY want to like this gun, but I have some worries, to the extent that I am looking at the Taurus 444 Ultralite. :( Mailed to Smith today. 12-14-2009 Now the waiting begins.

12-22-09 Talked with S&W, Frame problem (we had THOUGHT it warped), and they will make the repair. Because it is a different serial number, it now has to be shipped back through a FFL. Oh well, we will see when it gets here.
