I've been wanting a Tundra for quite a while. I've known several people who have had them for years and put over 300k miles on them with no issues, and they still look and run like new.

Last week I took the plunge and bought a new 2014 double cab 4x4 with the 310 HP 4.6L engine. It;s like driving a luxury car, smooth, quiet and the 6 spd tranny is so smooth you can't hardly feel it shift. And it's STRONG.

Tell me about yours if you have one.

Pre-Tundra?

I don't know when they started making the Tundra, but this 92 in this picture is pushing 300K with minimal problems. We had just got done servicing the front differential and wheel bearings when I took this picture. It has the 3.0L V-6 and it is still running strong. Had to replace the overhead cam belt once which is pretty normal at about 150K. My Wife and I drove it a long time and now my Son drives it everyday. I can't complain. I'll just about bet that the newer ones are even better.
Gordon :)

Well I don't own a Tundra but my youngest son bought a 2008 Tundra Crewmax with the V8 and sold it about a year ago and had put close to 85K miles on it. He decided to sell it and keep the 09 GMC Duramax because of camper towing. He really liked the Tundra but decided he didn't need 2 trucks.

I had a 2001 for 10 years, then sold it to my son in 2011 when I bought a 4-Runner. The Tundra had 95,000 trouble-free miles on it when I sold it. It's up to about 120,000 now and it seems like it's just getting broken in. Great trucks!

Mine is a 2007 Tundra Double Cab, 5.7l, SR-5. Tows my 25' travel trailer like it isn't even there. Mine is at 101k miles with the only issue being a bad radio 3 months after I bought it. I plan to keep it for at least another 100k miles. I am on my third set of tires, but it still has the original pads and rotors. Best vehicle I have owned in over 50 years of driving.

3 of them

Got my wife's Tundra in '04 mine in '10 and my son just bought his. Wife has about 250 thousand on hers.

I don't have a Tundra. I do have a 08 Tacoma which just turned over 100,000 miles. Only routine service and she runs like a dream. Solid well made little truck. Much better than the Fords I used to drive.

The Tundras are some of the best half ton trucks out there. I have the little sister Tacoma and love that truck. If the need arises that I need a bigger truck the Tundra would be my first choice. I believe Toyota followed by Honda are the two best car manufactures out there that offer vehicles that I will be able to afford, and strangely they are more "American" than what we traditionally think of as an American made car.

My 2002 back in 2003 on a road trip through Nevada / Arizona / Utah and beyond.

Still have & love it, been a great truck. :)

strangely they are more "American" than what we traditionally think of as an American made car.

They are designed, engineered and built in this country (Texas) using more than 75% of parts made in North America. I don't think any other truck can say that.

Just a thought here for toyota buyers. First I bought a avalon new in 2007. Its a fine car and I havent had any trouble with it but I dont drive it but 10,000 miles a year. It is 6 years old with just over 60,000 miles.
I got talked into the extended 6 year warranty for $1,800s. The deal was/is if you dont use a dime of the warranty at the end of the 6 years you get your full $1,800s back. I read where a guy claimed they wouldnt refund his money. I was ready for a fight. Short story, I just got my money back. You do have to jump through a lot of hoops and be tough!
First, I belive they hope you sell the car before the 6 years are up. If that doesnt happen they hope you will lose or forget about the paper work. If that doesnt work, they probley hope you use a small amount of work to void the money back. If that doesnt happen, you ON YOUR OWN, have to dig up and send a lot of info. THEY WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY SEND YOUR MONEY BACK! You have to call someone and get a verification that no money was paid out. You have to take pictures of the car, send a copy of current registration, a picture of the odometer, etc.
The dealer had gone out of business and started a new one under a slightly different name. Had to track that down. The process took many phone calls, the ins co. sent the check to the new name, I had to get on the phone and talk to a snippy girl who admitted she had my check but they werent "required" to send it for 4 to 6 weeks etc. Also YOU MUST do this all on your own without reminders from them within 60 days after end of contract or you are SOL! Just thought all you new buyers might keep this in mind! Good car though.

These are a couple pictures of the Tundra I bought new in '09

This one has the 5.7 V-8 in their Limited Production Rock Warrior TRD Series as such it is geared lower and wears the 17 series tires.

Sorry, I can not give Toyota truck any type of good recommendation...I have owned Chevy, Fond, and Dodge trucks since the late '50 and would rate this Tundra as biggest piece of junk I've ever owned.

Toyota has replaced the transfer case, 4 wheel drive actuators, rear end, drive shaft, 3 radios, cab break light assemby (due to leakage in the rain), A/C problems, I am fighting with them now for a transmission replacement.

It has the worest paint job I have ever seen on a truck runs, fish eyes, etc. But, according to Toyota it up to their standards.

To get the above listed work done on warranty I have had to called Toyota in CA. So, they could an engineer to look at the truck and approve the work. I have been on the phone to Toyota now for someone to approve the transmission replacement.

I don't trust the truck because any time I take it on a trip I have to spend time at a dealership in route or after I arrive where I'm going.

Mileage on the truck in the 4 years 5 months I've owned it 20,467.

I'll keep till the middle of next year, get it detailed and trade it off for a large lump of change due to it's condition and mileage.

From what I've learned from others around here, your situation is the exact opposite of the vast majority of people.

In my household, we have 4 Toyotas now. .... a 91 Tercel, (still going strong and looking good after 200k miles), a 2003 Matrix, a 2012 Rav4 and this now this 2014 truck.

Additionally, my son has a Corolla, my parents have a Camry and my brother has a Solara. My aunt and uncle have a Tacoma and a Tundra.

Every time one of our 'American' cars/trucks die, it seems a Toyota takes it place and none of us have had any problems with any of them.

Sorry to hear about your 'lemon'. Don't give up on Toyotas.

Aloha,

The 2 rubber strips above the doors on the Wife's 2010 had to be replaced

I found the metal hold them in the groove rusted and the strip was coming off.

I found it just days after the 3 yr warranty expired.

Had to fight with Toyota dealer we got it from to get it replaced under warranty

The Wife likes it. She drives it daily.

I prefer my Loaded Chevy Trailblazer SS to the Tundra.

Her Tundra has had too many Recalls.
