What is going on in Tennesee with the concealed weapons laws? I caught the end of a Fox radio conversion and the reporter seemed quite concerned.

With the outster of long time House Speaker and anti-gunner Jimmy Naifeh, the pro gun crowd is taking full advantage of the situation. Unfortunately, they aren't very co-ordinated.
Right now there are about a dozen or more pro-gun bills working their way through the state legislature. Hot topics are carry in state/national parks and the long wanted restaurant carry law. There are several versions of each being offered.
The antis, of course, are having a hissy fit.
Just what we'll end up with and how good or bad it'll be is anybodies guess.
The Tennessee Firearms Association is keeping a watchfull eye on all that's going on.

Concerned about what??

But FYI, we have no "concealed weapons" laws in TN. We do have Handgun Carry laws.

TNDixieGirl, I didn't get the entire news report, just caught the tail end. The interviewer sounded as though Tn. residents were up against a strong lobby of anti-carry groups.

Thanks for your reply.

I am not aware of any "strong" lobby against carrying in our state. BTW Dixie is right; in Tennessee it is a permit to carry as you see fit. Most people keep it concealed. It is just a handgun permit though.

Yes on TGO, they keep a close eye on what is going on.

THe biggest issue is carry into a nice place liek O'Charley's and since they all have a bar, we "might get drunk and have a shoot out". Nobody mentions fact that if you carry there is a law about NO GUNS WITH DRINKING in TN. Our former speaker is of arab heritage, maybe with so many holding office all over the country, their anti gun line is a veiled plot to take us over some day, (ie B. Hussain) Tn, do be aware there is a "bullet serial number bill" being attempted in TN too! Call your reps and state sen asap. Let them hear us.

The Ammunition Accountability Act failed in the 2008 legislative session in TN. I have not heard thats it's been reintroduced in the 2009 session. If it has, could you direct me to a link with the info? Thanks much.

Thanks for the replies, I plan on checking the TGO site. Sorry it took so long to get back. Lately I've been inclined to e-mail my senators and doing so on many issues.

Just like here, it varies. For the most part, they're fine people, that stay on top of current state issues. But they do have a few oddballs and the-sky-is-falling folks, just like all forums.

Lurk in the background and read for awhile and you'll get a pretty good feel for how it is. I lurk more than I participate anymore.

This is one I have never understood and, is is law in N.C. you are not allowed to carry in a financial institution i.e. banks, loan Cos., etc. however if you are carrying a large amount of money for deposit most people would prefer to be armed and if you are making a large withdrawal the same would apply and, if you are going to rob a bank you ain't gonna obey the law anyway. So where is sense in that legislation?

Tennessee is very pro-gun. I EDC with a TN HCP and there aren't really many restrictions. You don't have to worry about "printing" because you can carry your piece right out in the open, so no such thing as "printing". As far as the right to carry into bars (restaurants that have a bar are "bars." Get real guys, they have loud and abusive drunks just like the hootenanny down the road! I still won't carry into such places because I don't want to get prodded into a shooting by a mean drunk. (BTW I do drink, when I'm not armed of course.)If I could get as good a meal somewhere else I would avoid the places entirely, but they do have the best food available in our area. I support the law but it really won't change my style. With alcohol being served you are still in the "Stupid people/Stupid places/Stupid things " environment and your best defense is to go "gray" and avoid trouble.

If you could be prodded by a stupid drunk into a shooting, you're right, you have no business carrying into a restaurant that serves alcohol. Which, by the way, are NOT even close to "bars". I've never witnessed drunks in Chili's, O'Charley's, etc. as even being close to the same level as the obnoxious drunk at the dive (bar) down the road, simply because restaurant managers won't typically let it go that far. I will carry in those restaurants because it's my safety that matters most.
