Hello, all...
This is my first post to the forum, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a question...

I've looked and looked on-line, but have found only two or three holster choices for my 500--specifically a black leather hip rider...or perhaps black synthetic.

Where are all the holster sellers?
-My primary need is quick release for bear protection while doing serious photography in Alaska.

I used to carry a .44 Magnum Mountain Gun in the Bianchi actually made for my Beretta 92F, but it fit my .44 perfectly. It had a flap over the top which helped keep it from catching on things while moving through thick brush...

Anything similar out there that can handle the X-frame?

Thank you for any help or direction.

My view is that if you're going to walk any distance with one of the heavy X frames like the originals, a hip holster is tiring. Normal hip movement means you're moving that weight around with every step. Get a shoulder/across the chest holster and you'll hardly know its there.

Uncle Mike's has a nylon rig that is inexpensive and works well at least for me. Don

i found a shoulder rig from uncle mike's works for for my 7.5" model 500pc.....i also have a leather holster from galco that is extremly high quality and fit for my 460es snubby
hope this helps!

Good luck ,,,Al

Hunter Holsters makes a nice bandoleer type across the chest holster that looks neat. They are available from Cabelas for about 80 bucks. Uncle Mikes makes nylon sholder holsters for the x frame also. I can't see myself carrying one of those things on my hip. I think it would drag my pants down around my ankles after a while.

Thanks to all. I've checked into each and every link and suggestion given here. To those commenting on hip-carrying being problematic...
...Here's my thinking:

I've carried my longer-barreled Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag, as well as my similarly long Raging Bull .454 Cas on my hip without problems. Given the fact that my 500 is only a 4 inch, and that I've 6 foot 3, it doesn't seem too bad to me.

I'm a photographer, and often have a backpack on...which makes a chest or shoulder carry solution problematic. Also...the heavy, thick and secure belt on my backpack or camera-pack is perfect for holding hip holsters securely.

Thanks to all.
Still...if anyone has any specific knowledge of nylon, or black leather hip jobs, I'm still looking.

Thanks again!
This is a great and helpful forum.

Merry Christmas to all.

PS. I have to say...regarding the 500...that I find it's kick quite comfortable, even with huge grizzly-stopper loads. My S&W Mountain Gun in .44 Mag is FAR more harsh with heavy loads than the 500, believe it or not.

I will NOT, however, use Winchester Silvers again..as three out of four shots fired yesterday sent shards of bullet metal back at my FACE!! -One of them embedded in my cheek. Yipe. And yes...I did have the correct comp on the front.

Thanks again!
