My 4566TSW has the fired casing with a date of 9/10/07. Is this a pretty good indication of the birthday of my gun?

Thanks

Funny you should ask this question. While I do not have an absolute answer, I can say that yesterday when buying the 4513TSW, the guy behind the counter looked at the test casing and said yours was born on (such and such) date... Unfortunately at this moment I can not remember what my date was...

in other words, YES.

This is kinda off topic but, does anyone know the procedure that S&W goes through when they test fire a weapon to get the fired case. Do they just stick the barrel into a ballistic box and fire or is it actually on a short range to see if the function and sites are close to spec?

Jlank - Thats probably a regularly overlooked bit of information. I didnt even think about it until you brought it up. November 18, 2009 is the date on my CS45s test case envelope. Great question.

here in md we have to have a fired shell casing. when we do the paperwork for the backround check, we use the date it was fired for the birth date of the firearm. the thinking is that it is pretty close. so far the state police have never challeenged us on this so it must work for them also
