Two Fridays ago, 7/31, I spent the day working on my jon boat. That night, I noticed I was more sore in my joints, especially my arthitic hip. The next day my sinuses were constantly draining and I felt a little weak.Started losing my taste and smell so I went Tuesday to a local Urgent Care and was swabbed for covid. The following Sunday they called and told me I tested positive and I would be getting a call from DHEC (Dept. of Health and Enviromental Contol), although I was all ready feeling somewhat better. So I put myself in covid jail and never was really sick, maybe like a weak cold. This past Friday, DHEC finally called and asked me questions about my symptoms, which were pretty much gone by then. So she said I was out of quarantine since I had no more symptoms. I consider myself very lucky for not getting very sick. Just goes to show you this virus affects everyone differently. I'm 66 and she told me people a lot younger than I were having a much more severe reaction. Be careful and wear your mask.

I’m glad to hear you came through OK. Scary...

Any thoughts on how you might have been infected? We’re you avoiding crowds, distancing, sanitizing your hands regularly and wearing a mask?

Good to hear you did not get too bad. I would guess your general health is good and you are not overweight?

You are fortunate indeed. A former co-worker went home sick on March 31 and is returning to work tomorrow, 38# lighter. He had every symptom associated with COVID-19 but did not test positive until his third test.

Great to hear you're on the back side of this thing and in good shape. I hope you have no lasting effects.
Unfortunately, we South Carolinians don't seem to have an effective plan in place to blunt this pandemic, and daily deaths just continue to rise.

It's now evident that many humans have some level of natural immunity to the Covid-19 virus, but it hasn't yet been explained. Some of the immunity may be genetic or age-related, and it has been demonstrated that blood type appears to play a role. Another theory is that previous vaccinations for other diseases (or previously having other viral diseases) may impart some lasting immunity to Covid-19. There is also some data that the severity of the disease is influenced by the level of exposure to it, that is, that if you have had only slight exposure, you may have only minor or no symptoms, the theory being that the body can successfully fight off low-level exposure but defense mechanisms are overwhelmed by high exposure levels. We'll just have to see what happens.

It was reported on N.P.R. just the other day that this thing “may “ not be as bad as first reported. The stats are starting to show .5% fatality rate and of course it’s been said all along that over 98% of those that get the virus will probably never know they had it and only a small percentage will have symptoms and out of those only a small percentage will become severely ill.

I don’t listen to nor fallow NPR. I just referred to it because it’s so far left it isn’t funny and if they figured it out it’s only a matter of time.

Btw: all the numbers are and have been over inflated. There a couple that was Informed they tested positive yet never had the test.

My mother works for a county hospital and the going joke when she gets home “she now lives next door to me” is how many times has she been counted as COVID positive today or this week.
See, every time she is exposed to a patient that tests or is known to be positive for COVID then everyone that was exposed is also counted COVID positive as well.

Wow NPR said that
I have no doubt about the seriousness of the disease-I have absolutely NO confidence whatsoever in the reliability of the numbers reported. Kinda like an old poker acquaintance recently died. Cause of death COVID. I remarked to a few poker players that I guess the fact that he was a life long smoker, a heavy drinker and was 82 had nothing to do with his death  He now sits as a warning about the ravages of COVID as far as old people are concerned.
Use common sense, do not pick up things off the restroom floor and lick them, use proper hygene and don't get in people's space (I refuse to use the term social distancing) just like we have all been taught by our mammas. If you feel the need to wear a mask, or it is a requirement of some place that you WANT to patronize, than wear the &$%#in' mask. Pretty easy really.

The masks are useless. Keep those hands clean and stay away from people.

Well I can't "stay away from people" because I am essential.

So Let's see..... possibly risk my health, life and financial well being. The health and lives of my wife, kids, co-workers and absolute strangers. Contribute to the continuing shut down of the economy, by LISTENING to Warren Sear and others like Warren, who like to politicize a virus and pandemic by not wearing a mask to HELP stop the spread......Or I can listen to the overwhelming numbers of Doctors and scientist, not to mention my own common sense that is telling me that the simple act of wearing a mask helps.

Hmmm not a difficult decision for me.

Mudcat glad you are feeling ok and it was not too bad for you.

So if before your acquaintance died, I walked into his room and murdered him, what exactly would the cause of death be on his death certificate? That he was an 82 year life long smoker and drinker? By this reasoning if I walk into a IC ward and murder all the covid patients, I "shouldn't" be charged with murder because..."Well they were all going to die anyway" ?

I've had the " symptoms" for months, tested twice, both negative. Will do it again this week. Not going to comment on the masks.

Symptoms and risk factors, I have a lot
cough, I smoke (probably more because I'm bored and depressed these days.)
Runny nose, I have allergies, dogs (have one and spending more time together.) house dust ( I hate to clean!) various pollens (I try to get outside more)
Over 65, blame my parents for that.
Overweight, Bored and I like to cook & bake.
Overly tired, can't seem to shut the mind down. And those danged 5 AM nature calls!
Exposure, I deal with the public most every day.
Live in a state with basically no restrictions.
Live in a tourist area with thousands of visitors every day

Geez, I should be dead!

I am completely unconcerned about the covid. My wife and I have both had it. All I had was a scratchy throat that I shrugged off after 3 or 4 days. Never felt tired or weak. Yeah I had sore muscles and joints but I work out regularly and that's a normal thing for me.
Took my wife 'bout a week and a half.
At my last old man check up, my blood pressure and heart rate were in the athletic range, my lungs sound "very clear" and all my blood tests came back in the healthy range. All my doctor could say was, "you're very healthy."
At our new gym, they did a "fitness assessment" and along with my blood pressure and heart rate being in the athletic range they also measured my body fat as being in the "very lean" range.
All this helps me to stay mobile with my degenerative peripheral motor nerve condition and keeping myself healthy helps to keep me healthy.

Yeah, I'll wear a mask where required, it helps others feel more comfortable.

I agree with you. My lifting partner, his woman and another couple went to Myrtle Beach on vacation a couple weeks ago. Shortly after he returned I got sick as did all four of the vacationers. They all tested positive. I never got tested but had the exact same symptoms so I'm sure I had covid as well.

I wasn't much fun but I've had worse cases of the flu. My worst symptom was a tiredness that's hard to describe. It took all I could muster to get up off the recliner and walk the 20 ft to the bathroom when necessary. I had a collapsed lung 7 years ago and don't think I felt as tired with that, but at least that feeling only lasted a couple days.

I also had the achy joints to the point that the pain interfered with my sleep at night, and no appetite at all. I lost 10 lbs and I was skinny to start with.

I'd say it was a week till I felt normal again, but I never felt like I was going to die or anything. By the way I'm 69 but in generally good physical condition, and I neither smoke nor drink.

My friends are all recovered or well on the way back to normal.

It's basically the flu. No more, no less.

At our weekly poker game last night in which all the players are in my age group, we agreed that the whole thing has been way overblown, and none of us are worried about it.

Glad you had the minor brush, mudcat.

The score for us in family and people we know:

Two dead, both under the age of 60.
One hospitalized away from home and AFAIK still too weak to travel home.
One 55 year-old, highly athletic type who came within in a whisker of going to hospital in the UK. It took several weeks to get his strength back to go to work. Not sure if he has started sports again.

Not real/nothing to worry about my arse.

I'm an "essential" worker too, and haven't missed a day of work. I am 100% against the fear mongering and politicalization that has gone into it.

Follow the science, not "common sense".

I'm not trusting the numbers, either.

I have an older buddy who lives in CA and has multiple medical issues so I call him and his wife regularly to check on them.

Anyway last week, he told me that their daughter and her housemates who live in another part of CA, a "hotspot", went to get tested. They set up an appointment, and after waiting outside for an hour, at least, in the heat, they decided to reschedule their appointments.

A week later, each one of them -ALL 3- received a phone call saying that they tested positive for C19! They LEFT and WERE NEVER TESTED, yet they each got a phone call that they were infected!

When the daughter questioned the results and how they got them, the testing facility refused to answer any questions and hung up on her!

They all tested negative at the later appointment at another testing site. These results came two days quicker than the results for the test they never took!

I wondering if there are financial incentives for testing facilities and positive results.

But recover in what ways? Reports continue
of lung scarring, weakened heart muscles.
continued fatigue.

If you refer to the OPs post, he is indicating a full recovery like most people who had it are experiencing.

It's mainly the pro-boogie man media who is promoting that residual symptoms are the norm (instead of the exception) in those who recover even though that's part of the narrative to frighten the masses.

I think that your last statement should read Geez, I am really glad that I am still alive.
