Texas Ranger Bowie

I have a Texas Ranger Bowie in a wood box. Who made these knives and what is the value. The knive has never been used as new condition.

I'm glad you asked that question. I did a little google search and found out that Roy Jinks, S&W Historian, had a hand in designing the knife and it was made by S&W at the factory. Interesting!

The value would depend on if you had the blue box and the shipping box too. $200-$250 or thereabouts is my WAG.

the ones i saw that you discribed could be made made in seki japan look on ebay thats the best place to find a price in a knife seki makes some of the best knives in the world.whar the tang have stamped on it. pics allways help. good luck

Thx men. I only have the wooden display box. I have 2 of the standard S&W Bowies which I have used for hunting knives. I have often heard these knives were made by Smith. The standard knives sold for around $30 dollars in the 1970 in Casper, Wyoming.

The knife Roy designed was the Model 6010, but that was in 1971, the precurser to the 1973 Texas Ranger knife. If you got your knives in 1970, I wonder what you have. Can you post pictures?

The knife has a Ser#TR 174XX Box has Texas Ranger Com. Commision Seal on lid. The spot on the blade is a reflection.

That is the 1973 Texas Ranger commemorative knife. It came with a 19-3 revolver or separately. The knives with the guns did not have wood boxes, so yours is a knife only. As to value, like I said, $200 or more.

Do you know who made the S&W Bowie knives? I was told years ago they were made by Schrade Walden.

Well, the source I read (Wikipedia) says they were made by S&W at the S&W factory. Don't know if that is true.

They were made by Smith & Wesson. Value $150-$225.

From the book "The Knives of Smith & Wesson" by C.E.Rinke.

"Roy Jinks, and John Wilson, a member of the Texas Ranger Commission, developed a design, similar to an early style Texas
knife, for a Bowie knife. This pattern was presented to Smith & Wesson and the Bowie knife, designed by Blackie Collins, was modified closer to the style originally used by Mr. Wilson.

In 1973, Smith & Wesson produced 20,000 Texas Ranger Bowie knives. 8,000 knives were cased with a S&W Model 19 handgun. In addition, 12,000 individual knives in their own presentation cases were offered. These knives were serial numbered TR 1 thru TR 20,000."

Not sure what the value is.

I have the prototype smith and Wesson knife and it looks different than all the others I see. It has prototype engraved on the back and on the front has the rangers on horseback with guns drawn. Serial number tr10752. I have all the parts sheath and box along with wooden box with knife. Anybody have a clue what it is worth?
