Well, here we are, day 5 of the new open carry.
I visited with friends and businesses over the last day or two--and a couple of Cops.

None has seen any open carry so far.
The cops are not worried about it and figger that once the heat wears off there will be no issue---they say they won't challenge unless someone gets spooked.
Blessings

Coming from a place where open carry with no permit has been OK and hardly ever seeing it except during hunting season I highly doubt you will. The rare hard core gun guy and some look at me types will be about it. Maybe because it is new you will get a bit of an upsurge at first.

If I was was worried about people carrying, I would pay attention to untucked shirts, bulged pockets, jackets hanging uneven, etc. You might be doing a good job, but if someone is paying attention most people have a tell.

William,

I ain't seen no one open carrying yet neither....

But, if the State would jest issue all CHL holders a shiny brass concho
with there name & number on it, you know to wear on or near their
holstered sidearm, everyone would know they's was legal to do so.

The TDC, at each colony could stamp em out purty quick, a feller would think....

Or maybe that would be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.... ;):D

I heard Don Imus on his morning radio program ( He is now living in Brenham TX ) he said something to the affect that you had to have a concealed carry permit to OC...Is that the case ? I am speaking of pistols..

That is correct. In TX you must have a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun openly, and the weapon must be holstered. Why make yourself a target and give up the surprise factor of concealment and unnecessarily make those around you uncomfortable?

I agree..Here is Missouri, OC is legal for the most part..No concealed carry license in order to do so..In the bigger cities OC is few and far between..

Seen several here locally. Friday a bus passenger, Sat, a bus passenger and guy buying ammo at wm. Monday, bus rider and two more at wm, and Monday evening, saw a woman OC while dining at Nikos restaurant. Still no blood running red in the streets, and nobody got hurt.

Even though I have not spent a lot of time running around town since Jan. 1, I haven't yet seen anyone carrying openly in San Antonio. And I don't expect I will in the future. I haven't seen anything in the newspaper or TV either regarding an epidemic of OC.

A few days ago, there were about 400 or so, OC either in Austin or San Antonio, I forget which. Twas shown on channel 6 news here. Nobody had gunfights there either.

This true....

I have yet to see any open carry, but I have seen more & more of the door signage stating that concealed carry is allowed, but open carry isn't.

Around here they can put up a billboard in front of the door and it doesn't mean squat unless it is a bank or restricted government building. They can ask you to leave their business, but, they can do that if they don't like your hat.

Some people just can't grasp the fact that a guy openly carrying a gun isn't trying to hide anything. Criminals try to hide their illegal activities and an armed robber or murderer is hardly worried about hiding his gun because he already plans on breaking a big law. Think he going to worry about the walk signal being on when he crosses the street to get to the victim?

We've had an open carry law here in OK since November of of 2012 that pretty much mirrors what they have in TX now.

It really has been mostly a non-event and rarely comes up in conversation.

I think I can count on one hand the times I've observed open carry since it became law. Law enforcement is generally unconcerned.

I suspect that after the new wears off it in TX, most folks just won't care one way or another.

As I stated on another thread, we have had open carry here in West Virginia all of my life, and other than uniformed police or security guards, I have only seen a handful of folks open carrying ever. That would have been mostly during hunting season. and even though those old enough to own a handgun can carry openly, without a permit, I have never been aware of crimes being committed by anyone doing so.

It is so frustrating hearing the total BS on TV and in the "news"papers about how many 10s of thousands of people are killed annually by "guns" (never by people, specifically criminals), when we all know that those licensed to carry leagally almost never commit any kind of crime.

Why not make murder illegal. That would put a stop to all the killing, right? Jeeze....

Just because you have the right to do something does not make it the right thing to do.

I agree, it's idiotic to go around with a AK over your shoulder just because the law allows it. It also does nothing to enhance the image responsible gun owners .

I think James Madison’s view sums it quite well: “liberty may be endangered by abuses of liberty as well as by the abuses of power".

Open carry of rifles and shotguns has always been legal in Texas and were never seen except near gun shows and ranges, etc. I have not seen any open carry. No one wants to freak out the soccer moms and their Paxil. I figure the main purpose of the rule is to make it easier to carry concealed.
