I haven't posted in a long time. I haven't really visited the site in a long time. Life gets in the way I guess...even gets in the way of things we are passionate about.

I was watching the news tonight and it just occurs to me how very much I appreciate the job our police officers do. I often take for granted that I can pick up the phone anywhere/anytime and there will be a responding fellow American that will come to my aid. Mom and dad were in a car accident a few weeks ago (both are fine) and the officer on the scene could not have been more professional. I said thanks and we took them home. I imagine he went right back to work.

It really bothers me the way our society can become "media drunk" and an event can be dissected and reassembled entirely based on the whims of a vocal and uninformed few. "The truth will stand when the world falls" is something my dad has said many many times.

I posted this here because I know there are a lot of police officers, both retired and active, who participate on this forum and I wanted to say thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

^^^. Amen to that! They have a job that most couldn't and many wouldn't do, but society depends on them - even when society doesn't know it.

When the opportunity presents itself, I make a habit of buying coffee or dinner for officers. One table of four officers tried to tell me they couldn't allow me to pay for their dinners. I told them its too late...its already done. It's my small way of saying "thank you" for being there.

I've seen some 'bad' cops....

But all the police that I've dealt with over the years have been helpful and professional. Even in the few events that I was their 'subject'. Trouble is, it's getting to be a lousy deal. They do their job and get criticized for it to the point of having to sacrifice their careers. That is not a good situation for our police forces all over the country. I'm only one voice but I often defend their actions unless something was blatantly wrong. And for every bad situation that ends up on the news there are thousands of policemen out keeping order.

And what are the credentials of those who do the criticizing?

I have a lot more to say but out of respect for the Forum Rules and to avoid having this thread shut down, I will stop here...

Why, you are welcome! Overall, the job is/was a lot of fun. Of course, it had it's bad moments but it certainly did beat actually working for a living.

Little things like your post keep a lot of folks going for a long time. I still remember a little old lady who patted me on the shoulder and said: " Thanks, sonny, I couldn't have gotten it done without you" after one of the many dreaded "grampa won't wake up" calls.

We know that people like you are the vast majority. And thank you!

For all the good officers out there, Thank you!!

If it wasn't for good people doing good things for others this country would be a mess.

Thank you not only to law enforcement but to the Fireman, Nurses, EMTs and all the others who help others on a daily basis to make our lives safer and better.

God Bless you all!!!!!

Our brave law enforcement folks are sure finding themselves under a lot of buses lately. Personally, I'm secure in knowing that despite the onslaught of criticism "to serve and protect" is still paramount to them.
So, my thanks and please be safe!

I tell people a major function of the police is to protect the criminal element from people like me.

Many is the time I have read a posting by a leo on this site and had the thought, "God Bless them for what they do"

And something I have noticed is that they have often developed a great sense of humor.

I am not a cop want to be but it is great to hang out here with you guys! :D:D:D

These are interesting times when police officers are second and third guessed and reviewed by armchair pundits on "instant replay", and people can work for a "guaranteed" pension all their lives only to have it greatly reduced or taken away in order to fund executive bonuses. Thank you to our first responders.

Amen to what Huston Rick said.

I once heard a quote from a police officer, something to the effect that:
"A policeman has to make a life or death decision in a fraction of a second that may be analyzed and debated by lawyers, prosecutors, and judges for months if not years, to determine if he acted within the law or not."
