A few weeks back my 93 year old father fell and broke a femur. He had surgery and a pin placed in the bone and has been in skilled nursing care close to his home. The very nice elder care/retirement facility he has been at had suffered damage during Hurricane Harvey which added more difficulty to his already difficult rehab and recovery. So he and my step-mother decided on their first new home since 1971. She has moved into their new apartment and he is in skilled nursing care on the opposite side of the facility for about six weeks of additional rehab. A dozen of us gathered and had a blessed time.
My sister and her family will move into the folks old town home for a couple of months until the new house they have been building since early this year is complete. My bother told me that we needed to go to the mostly vacated townhouse after lunch because there was a box with my name on it. I told him the only thing I really wanted was Dad's old WW-II issue navy knife. He said... I'm the oldest, Amy already claimed it, and I never saw or had heard of this knife. I said Dad whittled down my peewee league Louisville Slugger to fit my hands when I was a kid with that knife. I'll sharpen it for Amy if she wants it. It just has to stay in the family.
Some of you may remember me Drifting and posting the story of the USS Yolo late in WW-II as it was told by C. Homer Bast. My Dad and I were proofreaders, so I thought. Well Homer and my Dad did not share everything with me... Yes there is more... Pictures I've never seen before, editing discussions, an entire other manuscript of a sub-story I was unaware of. Wow! Oh wow! The only thing I want for Christmas is that my dad will be able to answer my questions. Miss USS Yolo, Yolo County CA was a cutie.
