I own HKs and Berettas that hold twice the ammo and are lighter weight. They are probably even more reliable, more durable, and easier to maintain.

But this is the gun I just like for non-rational reasons. It's my Colt Gold Cup Trophy.

It's got a red hi-viz front site and front strap checkering. I changed the flat MSG (which also had a magwell) out for a steel arched MSH (Ed Brown).

And I have these genuine ELK panels from Spresser on it.

It's my most accurate handgun too (I sited it in at 15 yards, and can make one big hole).

It's not as tactical, not as hi-cap, it's heavier and needs more maintenance, than my other pistols. But I find myself reaching for this one very often for carry.

Anyone here have that gun you just like, even though others are 'better'?

This Astra Constable .380. Back in my youth, I loved them but couldn't have one. Now as an adult I can and do. Just love the look, the feel, and the retro vibe.

Well, if you're going to own only one 1911, make it a Colt!

Mine would be a .45 Blackhawk convertible, had a .41 mag Blackhawk and .44mag SRH but didn't care for either.

The .45 acp gives me reasonable ammo prices and .45C+P is for when I want a thumper load.

Probably my Series 70 Gold Cup. I don't carry it and I don't keep it at-the-ready for home defense. I do shoot it on occasion. My main non-rational reason is that I inherited it from my dad.

I suppose my Series 80 Govt Model would count, too. I do carry this one and have it handy for home defense. Bought it back in the 90s and had some custom work done. It's bigger, heavier, and holds less ammo than my previous EDC, my Beretta PX4 Compact, but it actually carries really well and there's just something about it I like. Now, there are very good, rational reasons for carrying a 1911, but it's also got that certain "je ne sais quoi".

Since this picture was taken I've changed the grip screws, put grip tape on the frontstrap, and added much more finish wear from practicing...

I bought a .41 mag Redhawk Kodiak 2-3/4" bbl woods walking gun....I already own a model 58, a model 29 mtn gun, a glock 20 and a slew of .357's that could do the same duties at lower weight....and I also bought a dao Ruger LCR .22 lr....I love it ...don't need it....but I guess that is not the point with my obsession lol

Colt Gold Cups

My first Gold Cup was a used Series 70 in good condition I gave $500. cash for in 1990. I shot it quite a bit until the front sight disappeared somewhere on the range. Then people told me that was a common happening. I replaced the front sight with a Bomar but then had to put a matching Bomar on the rear. The pair sits pretty high but they haven't fallen off. I have a newer two-tone Gold Cup that doesn't shoot as well.

Then Colt did a run of Gold Cup Commanders and I bought one of those. It shoots just OK.

So yes, I am a GC sucker.
