Chuck24, I heard each of our military ships had their own post office. First sighting for me. Stamps and postmarks are great ways to pass the time. Sometimes it is almost like walking through history.

Chuck24, I heard each of our military ships had their own post office. First sighting for me. Stamps and postmarks are great ways to pass the time. Sometimes it is almost like walking through history.

Shipboard post offices started around 1918. I grew up in Newport News, just about a block from the shipyard, where both my parents worked. Launchings were a big deal in the city, my parents said they started taking me around 1955. Originally I collected Newport News ships, but through trading that kinda branched out. I have a complete grouping of all the aircraft carriers, also subs, battleships, cruisers, and destroyers.
