It is my understanding that in some Peruvian prisons, you don't get fed unless someone from the outside brings food to you.

It is the same in Mexican prisons. A few years ago, an idiot friend of mine got into a car accident (his fault, too) without insurance. Straight to jail until it could be figured out HOW the damages were going to be paid. I, along with some others, made sure that we kept him fed by taking him sandwiches and drinks...and some EXTRA sandwiches and drinks that could be given to some BIG guys "inside" to look after him and keep the predators away.

It worked. He came out okay, and very appreciative of our looking out for him. He's still an idiot, but he's wised up a bit. No small wonder, I suppose.

I was at the Second Chance shoot many years ago, when Richard Davis ran the thing. It was a great time. On the subject of Kennedy, there was this bumper sticker that I saw for sale there that said "We need T. K. like M. J. needed a drink of water" that I thought was funny. Probably too Politically Incorrect these days. I hope it's not too offensive to mention it, if it is, I will withdraw it.

My guess is the fool is playing or trying to leverage his way out of Peru and back home. It seems to have worked for the child molester in the far east a few years back. He admitted to everyone he was the guy who killed Jon Benet Ramsey. The FBI and everyone else pulled every string in the book to get his carcass returned to the US. Then when he got off plane he instantly stepped back from his claims. He made them to get the power of US diplomacy in action to save him from his overseas crimes. Once here he said he didn't do it, and forensic evidence excluded him.

Our friend Joran just wants a prepaid ride to his home island. I guess he feels he has a much better chance facing Aurba justice with possibly still friendly legal system. His claiming to know were the body is buried is just a lever to get him a quick flight home to semi-friendly surroundings. Might work.

I agree 100% with your premise, and I believe that Peru will perhaps even "play along" to a point...but I do not believe they will give him up to anybody for any reason. However, I would not be surprised to hear that they were thinking about doing it. I would not be surprised to hear they were promising to do it.

But I'd be struck dumb if they actually did. (Some people would insist I was struck dumb long ago, but don't listen to them.)
