The 242 Ti

I saw my first 242 Ti revolver today for sale at a local shop. IMPO, perhaps the most misshapen Smith I have ever seen; it looks like a Bodyguard gone haywire on growth hormone. I'm sure that it has some collector value given that it was only made for one year but, wow, what an weird looking piece.

It is a seven shooter, and the asking is $699. Perhaps a good deal given the scarcity but I do not know the revolver's book. If interested, I can give the phone to the shop.

I guess they are an 'acquired taste'. I wish I could buy a 242 for what I paid for my then new 296 nearly nine years ago - $349 on closeout at a local gunstore! I've seen one good used one - gun only $375 - five years ago. I snoozed....

I have the 296 & 242 and love them both, I think they make great carry guns, big enought to get a handle on (L frame) but packing enought ammo to do almost any job. They work great for my purposes, also they are pre locks and will always be welcome in my house. You need to take care when cleaning the TI cylinder as not to ruin the coating but other that that all is well with mine.

The 242 and 296 are love/hate. I love my 242 and searched for over a year to find one NIB. I purchased it from a forum member for $750, which is par for the course. It will not shoot .357, just .38, but it is great to carry and holds seven rounds. It's extremely lightweight, and sits comfortably on the belt or in a shoulder rig. You won't find them for sale too often, so decide accordingly.

I have one and I can tell you one thing....they shoot GREAT...a real pleasure and fun to shoot. Very lightweight and easy to carry too, in a coat pocket or on a hike where weight is a factor etc.
