Thanks all for the input.

M1905, 4th Change

Well used but not abused. Looks a lot better now than when I got it. Shoots very good. I am quite fond of its age lines. No facelift here.

It looks a lot like mine. Got the been there done that look. Wish they could talk. I like the look and would never facelift it. Get a few bucks ahead I will be lettering it.

Just aquired 32-20

Big fan of the round because of the Winchester rifles. Just picked this up today at an LGS. 56XX serial, 4 7/8 IN barrel, don't think the grips are original. Will probably get a letter.

Here is mine, acquired early last year. It is probably the most "used" revolver I own. Still shootable, but most of the blue worn off...most of the checkering on the grips off. I've haven't shot it yet.

Thanks Muley Gil. Once I figure out what grips were on it, I will try to find some. Not a have to have but a nice to have kind of thing.

H Richard: It is in really nice shape, ding on the trigger guard and the blue is a little worn but the cylinder is tight and everything does what it is supposed to do when I pull the trigger.

Colt Official Police

I know this thread is not for Colts, but today was one of those days that I got to take a trip back in time. As a child I used to look into my grandfather's gun case a marvel at the revolver propped up in there. That was circa 1966.. He passed away in 1968 and I never saw that revolver again until today. Turns out it is a Colt Official Police in .32-20 serial number 458xxx which I believe was manufactured in 1920. My uncle had it and brought it to show me. He is letting me take it for awhile to clean it up and shoot..

Don't ya just hate uncles who take the good stuff and run! :D I bet there are thousands of stories just like this where a great gun submerged. If you ever find out how, it turns out a relative snatched it. The proper thing to do is offer to buy the gun from him. Tell him the story about how you used to look at it when you were young. Some uncles have a heart. Maybe yours does. If you're real lucky, he'll give it to you.

In shooting for "lucky ". He has a lot of other nice guns from grandpa as well. I remember a couple of really nice LC Smith shotguns a lever action of some sort and s bolt action military rifle. My uncle can't honestly tell me makes and models though. He gave me an open invitation to come and check them out. I shot the colt a few minutes ago and it worked great.

OOOooo...!!! That's nice. I've long wanted a 6-inch Colt Army Special or Official Police in .32-20. Thanks for posting the photos and the story.

Just got back from shooting my .32-20. Remarkably accurate, kept putting 2 bullets through the same hole, or almost the same hole. I started feeling like George Patton at the 1912 Olympics after a while. ..

I have one of each. The Colt Army Special is, with a few cosmetic differences, just the early version of the Official Police. The main change is the name. My .32-20 OP has a 5" barrel, and one thing to be said for it over the M&P is that the sights are much better. I also prefer the OP's DA trigger pull to the M&P.

Whew DWalt! You're tougher than me. I've got pre-war Army Specials, Post War Official Police, even the Python but can't make my trigger finger prefer Colt's double-action trigger over the Smith & Wesson K-Frame's trigger, old one or newer one.

The reason I like it is that there is a very clear stop stage right before the hammer drops to allow taking final aim. Some call that "stacking." Much like shooting single action in DA.

That's a big 10-4 on the better sights on the Colt Official Police.
