I had to do some hard plumbing on my new Air Compressor and Air Dryers this week and while at a friends house (last Summer) for a party I ran into a Professional Plumber. While picking his brain, (I always like to pick Pro's brains) he recommended a Pipe Dope called Blue Monster and told me he now uses it exclusively. Unfortunately it is not sold in the Home Improvement stores and so I ordered it online the next day. This was at least 8 months ago but I have not used it until recently.

I must say it works very very well, comes with it's own brush in the cap, it's non toxic so it can be used for potable water, and is made in the USA. :) It seems to be a step or two above the Pipe Dope that comes in the tubes and sold at Home Depot or Lowes that I use to use. However there is ONE DOWNSIDE to the Blue Monster........ DON'T get it on your hands! It is a royal pain in the butt to get it off!! Thankfully I have heavy duty Boraxo Hand Soap that works great - but standard soap won't do it. Next time I'll wear Nitrile Gloves! :)

BTW I have been using the Blue Monster Teflon Thread Tape when ever I need to seal the connections on my Pool Filter and accessories. It is way thicker, way stronger and works 10x better than the cheap white junk sold in the stores. It's available online also and won't tear and shred like the cheap stuff does.

I don't know how long this Blue Monster Brand has been around, but I can recommend it frist hand and say it is worth getting if you do your own Plumbing work. :)

Glad you found a good product. It's amazing how such a small amount of product can end up in so many places you don't want it. Like on your hands then on your pants and on and on. Every time I use anti seize I get it everywhere.

Like they say about 3M's 5200 caulk, if you order some over the phone it'll get in your hair!

Yeah might as well add anti-sieze as getting everywhere you don’t want it also. I don’t think I have a work uniform that doesn’t have anti-seize and or pipe dope on it!!

Being a sprinkler fitter for over 30 years I've tried them all from pink utility dope, rector seal#5, blue blocker and a lot of the white Teflon based pipe dope's.
I also like the thin Teflon tape over the thick one as the thick one seems to be forced out of the threads more in my opinion.
The only pipe dope I did not like was the blue blocker as when it hardens it doesn't like to come apart if needed.

Anti seize is kinda like Ice 9. it expands to adhere to everything you've touched for the last year or the next.

My Father was a Manage/Enginer for Allied Chemical in NYC long ago,

Teflon has been around for a long time (DuPont)The chemical has not changed.

Here is some BLUE PTFE tape that is at least 50 years old. It is as good as day one. The container is metal not plastic, used when I installed my underground sprinklers (the risers)

Dad used to bring home all kinds of stuff they were working on or with. Plastic pipe (PVC) flex pipe, insulation etc.
