Just in...Permit holders will not be allowed to carry concealed firearms in every other state that allows concealed carry permits!

Senators voted for the measure, 58-39, but it fell short of the required 60 votes for passage.

It only came to a vote when the "supermajority" requirement was added. This gave a number of Demo Senators a chance to "vote for it" while being assured it would not pass. Orchestrated from start to predictable finish.

Wonder how many will fall for this little bit of "theater" and again vote for Dem Senators?

The bill included a "hate crimes" amendment:

Senator Vitter says one of his goals in sponsoring the concealed carry amendment is to ultimately defeat the "hate crimes" amendment that is attached to the defense bill.

"If we can get concealed carry on the [defense] bill, that will really cause a lot of complications for the Democrats in terms of passing the bill and hate crimes along with it," the senator explains. "So a lot of folks think our best chance at stopping hate crimes is through this amendment, and complicating their lives and complicating the bill by getting this concealed carry amendment on the bill." 'Gun' amendment could complicate 'hate crimes' bill (OneNewsNow.com)

Good! We don't need violent criminals carrying guns across state lines! Since this didn't pass, no criminal will be able to take guns across a state border. After all.. isn't that would happen if the bill passed?

....................... Idiots.

Oh.. look at this tid bit from fox news:

"Concealed handgun permit holders killed at least seven police officers and 44 private citizens during a two-year period ending in April, according to a study by the Violence Policy Center."

"It is beyond irrational for Congress to vote to expand the reach of these deadly laws," said the center's legislative director, Kristen Rand.

Deadly laws...... I... I'm at a loss for words...

WHOA! Over two years? That sounds like the vast majority of gun related murders involved permit holders........ again... Idiots.

Casey Yea?? Who'd of thunk. Good ol' Specter... I remember him saying he wouldn't be an automatic vote for the Dems.

This decision doesn't override existing reciprocity agreements, does it?

No. We are not worse off today than yesterday.
But not any better either.

It is surprising that it is only 2 votes. It is surprising that it came up at all, to be honest.
This is disappointing but only a temporary set back.

And it'll NEVER get passed, until they are more fearful of we the voters, than we are of they, our masters?

Notice the (2) Nay votes by Republicans: Lugar from Indiana & Voinovich from Ohio...Nice. We should give them a follow up flurry of E-mails & phone calls to show them our appreciation!

Call me paranoid, call me a skeptic...how come this vote, the cap and tax vote, and many others are all so close? Almost like they know the outcome ahead of time, and those like Reid get cover back home. Couldn't Reid have twisted a few arms like he always does and get this passed? These votes are awfully fishy to me.

Perhaps we should honor the wishes of the Senators who voted against it and stay out of their states. If they don't want us to have the right to defend ourselves in other states, we shouldn't go the their states (and spend our money to help their economy).

Failed to pass

Will someone please clarify the failure as to the other pre-existing reciprocating laws already on the books? Does this make all the reciprocating agreements null and void or is this just the failure to to include 48 of the 50 states as reciprocating?

The existing reciprocity agreements are still good.
