The CCW amendment Vote is in... Failed

Call me paranoid, call me a skeptic...how come this vote, the cap and tax vote, and many others are all so close? Almost like they know the outcome ahead of time, and those like Reid get cover back home. Couldn't Reid have twisted a few arms like he always does and get this passed? These votes are awfully fishy to me.

Most of bills that are voted on get a verbal agreement on which side a senator is on before they vote. This way the opponents of a bill will try to vote on it before there is support and the supporters will wait untill they think it has a chance. Seems most bills are voted for against based on what it does to a politicians pockets, not what is good for the country (because supporting your country is just crazy).

I have very mixed feelings about this. I would have liked to have seen the reciprocity bill pass, but not if it meant getting the Hate Crime bill passed as well.

Some real surprises. Lieberman Nay, woulda thunk he needs friends. Yea from Martinez, he don't need friends. Nay from Lugar yet yea from Landreau. Nay from Gillibrand (I thought the libs said she was in the NRA's pocket) yet yea from Feingold. Poly-tics (many biting parasites). Joe

Just in...Permit holders will not allowed to carry concealed firearms in any other state that allows concealed carry permits!

no, if you live in a state that allows concealed carry and if you have a permit, the bill would have allowed you to CC in a state that DOES NOT allow concealed carry for its residents...fortunately, most states have reciprocal agreements, which is unaffected by this failed legislation...as least that's the way that I understand it

Not quite. Had the bill passed and been signed into law, you (given you had a CCW from your home state) would be able to legally carry in any other state that also had a CCW program - even if a specific reciprocity agreement did not exist between those states. You still would not have been able to carry in the 2 states that have NO CCW program (IL and Wis, I think).

Likewise, you would have to abide by the laws of the state you entered. Some states (like Marxiland) does have a CCW program, but it is VERY limited. You would still have to abide by their restrictions, but it would not be a crime to move thru Marxiland with a concealed weapon if you stayed in compliance with their rules - even though Marxiland has practically NO reciprocity with any other states....

Without this law, you cannot pass thru Marxiland with a concealed weapon as they do not have reciprocity with anyone else. Same with NY, NJ and a few others. Without this law, you have to wait for your state's AG to develop a reciprocity agreement with the other states' AGs. Some, like MD, NY, NJ will likely never enter into reciprocity with other states and you will never be able to pass thru their borders legally with a concealed weapon.... There are a few rights-friendly states do not require speific reciprocity for you to CC so long as you do have a CCW permit. I think there are 2 states that allow CC without any permit whatsoever.

Yeah.. and I live in PA... smack dab in the middle. The only state that touches PA that has reciprocity is West Virginia!

Is this the same bill that keeps getting introduced each year for the past few years, or was this a different one?

If it is the same one, then it seems the repubs had many years of control such that the thing could have been passed back then? But no, it's politics as usual. Tease the constituents, and then posture and align for maximum politician gain.

Minnesota: Franken (D-MN), Nay Klobuchar (D-MN), Nay

It comes as no suprise that both Senators from Minnesota would vote against it, they are both unapologetic nanny state do-gooders that will never support pro-gun legislation.

North Carolina: Burr (R-NC), Yea Hagan (D-NC), Yea

I was surprised, but thankful!

Mrwildroot

Oregon, my state, both dumbocrats voted nay.Why am i not suprised?Yet we have CC and can own switchblades.Go figure. Also Washington and California voted nay.

Two weasels from Ohio, including George Voinovich ( a Republican in name only ) voted 'nay'.
The number of Republicans who keep deserting us is shameful.
And they wonder why they can't hold onto a majority?
Morons...
Don

Anyone take the time to email those you are complaining about this morning? When ya start believing it doesn't matter you may get your wishes.
Anyone read the banter and excuses why they voted against it? Care to post it?

Both Dorgan and Conrad of North Dakota voted yea, both are democrats.

That said and put aside, I have mixed feelings about the failure of this amendment. While I wish we could cc in all states, I'm always suspicious of letting the camel's nose into the tent.

Do we really want the federal goverment to encroach even further into our 2nd amendment rights? Sure this time it was a positive for gun owners who CC but what about after the next elections when they are sitting comfortably re-elected? Since they can now force states to abide by regulations (which we so supported and wanted) who's to say they can't snatch it back and then force California's approved hand gun list on all states? Or force illinois's FOID card on all states? Or NY's cant touch it without a permit law, or NJ's criminalization of possession of hollow point ammo?

Best be wary of intrusive Federal government. Yeah, gun owner's who have CCW's wanted this, and the auto companies wanted their bailout, and the uninsured want coverage....

My two Senators, Levin and Stabmenow, worthless as always!!!!!!

+1 on that one, I have been writing letters to these two clowns for the past 5 years. They have yet to vote as I request. I hope they go the way of our Governess in their next election. I wish there were term limits for Senators. Greg
