The CooLest RC Jet Ever!

I want one too, but I bet the price would be as high or higher than a new car or truck.

I flew scale RC stuff pretty seriously a decade or so ago, and easily had over $2k in some of my helicopters, but jets are a whole different level. At one event I attended, a guy had an A10 similar to the one in the video. He said he had ~$30k in it...

I believe it... at that time the jet engines alone were $5-10k each.

I got a COX powered tethered air plane when I was a kid. Went to the neighborhood cul-de-sac to fly it. Got it started, managed to get it off the ground and then it proceeded to power straight up and then nose dive straight down into the pavement. The plane shattered into a zillion pieces. The whole thing from take off to destruction lasted about 30 seconds. That was the last powered air plane I ever owned!

My brother had one of those. His was the Focke Wulf Triplane. He flew it once for about 30 seconds and then put it on a shelf. My other brother had the Sandblaster sand rail car. You could set the front wheels to turn or straight and then let it take off. We used it alot more than the plane.

My model airplane experience was pretty much identical, crash and shatter to pieces during the first seconds of its maiden flight, and I never tried again. I don't remember much about what kind of plane it was. I was probably 12 or so.

The RC hobby can be pretty unforgiving, especially when you have a lot of time and $$$$ into a build. Gravity has no mercy.

My last big build was a 1/4 scale MD500E. I had about a year (and $2500) into the build, and the failure of a $100 electronic component caused a total loss after about 4 minutes of flight time... fortunately I always did test flights long before all the finish work and paint.

On the other end of the scale, my Jet Ranger has well over 40 hours of flight time, and though I haven't flown in a few years, it could be flight ready tomorrow with fresh batteries.

When I was in HS up north, I built a lot of balsa wood flying models - U-control and RC. P-47s, P-51s, Spitfires, FW-190s, Me-109s, the lot. Spent all winter building them, spent all summer crashing them…… great fun……

Did the exact same thing:o

My younger brother had a COX powered Army Jeep, same deal, it would go straight or run in circles. We would start it with the wheels set straight and set down on the street. My younger brother got to chase it down the street and catch it. That Jeep certainly lasted longer than my plane did!

Must have been pretty common.
My cousin got one for his birthday.
Took it to the ball field the next morning.
I don’t think it lasted 30 seconds.

Out of curiosity I went on Ebay to see what those old COX tethered planes were going for. I was shocked at what people are asking for them. If I'd have known it would be worth something someday I wouldn't have destroyed mine!
