Pawngal and Johnnyflake sent me some cigars to try. I really didn't expect them to send so many.
Since I don't smoke cigars all that often, I had to find some way to store 'em.

We have a Discover Card and we use it as often as possible for the cash back bonus. From that we order meat from Omaha Steaks. Basically that means free meat.
They send it in coolers with dry ice.

My wife came up with the idea of using one of the coolers for storing all the cigars.
Johnnyflake also sent a cutter and a coupla packets that keep the RH at 69%. I added a small damp sponge.

I know I still need to add a hygrometer to make sure the RH stays at the optimal level.

Good idea. But keep an eye out for a real wood one. The online cigar sellers will sometimes send you one for "free" with a modest order. I have never gotten one that way, but got one from a friend who had assembled a few too many.

My favorite cigar storage idea is to use a Tupperware or Rubbermaid container. For years I used a rectangular Rubbermaid one that was just right for a bundle of 25 robustos and fit nicely in a motorcycle saddlebag without taking up any more room than necessary.

Snubby..

TAKE THE SPONGE OUT:eek:

You will end up with moldy cigars. The Bovedo packs are and excellent way to go.. They keep the RH at the correct %.

A better option until you can get a real humidor is a regular AMMO can. :D:D

Ditrina is right no sponge.

Something that does work well to keep the humidity just right is a straight silica based cat litter not a clay or clumping. It will have some white and blue crystals. Put a cup or so in a nylon sock or fine mesh bag. Mist with distilled water until about 1/3 of the crystals go clear. It should hold you dead steady for weeks at 67 rh. When it begins to drop just spray again with distilled water. A bag will last you for years.

You can get a cheap digital hygrometer at Wally for less than 10 bucks.

This system does work very well and is very inexpensive!
