The Dan River

Here`s some more.
My Wee Humble canoe is my "ALL TIME FAVORITE" boat. I have had more fun and enjoyment from it than any thing I ever had.

Where's the Dan River? Sounds Central European. Sort of like the Danube...

Can you catch huchen or true salmon there?

The Dan River is in the edge of Virginia and almost in N.C. In the 50's, 60's and, into the early 70's they had fabric mills called Dan River Mills and made some of the finest fabrics in the country. I live about an hour and a half drive from it. It is truly some beautiful country. It runs through Danville, Va.

Several of my mama's family members worked in that mill in Danville, including my granny.

I visited it during production many times. It was a sight.

I went to Hargrave Military Academy up the road a piece in Chatham.

Granny has passed on, one uncle still lives there with his family but that's all. Everyone else moved, and the uncle and his family always travel to visit the others. He likes getting out.

Thanks for the pictures, I need to get back there.

Thank you all for the kind comments. This float was all in NC I went to the Dan River Co in Danbury NC and they provided a shuttle service from their store to a put in place about 6 miles upriver.I must put in a plug for them, Great folks very friendly and helpful!!!
I have been trying to float as many local rivers as I can. So far I`ve done the Dan, Yadkin,& New. They are all wonderful, but I think the New -which is the second oldest river in the world-is my fav.
