Hey Caj, If you really want to be sporting, why don't you use a .22lr ??? Give the poor things a chance. Anyone can hit a bird with a shotgun. That is unless you meant your off to shoot airplanes down at the local airport ??? Shoo

Duck hunting it too expensive for the work and money it costs. Per pound, ducks are far more expensive than any meat found in a grocery store.

Cajun will just pass the cost on to a new client this week. We poor people cannot do that.

Thanks Shoo, that brought back some fond memories from my childhood, listening to my Dad and uncles reminiscing about their own childhoods during the Great Depression and putting food on the table using .22 Shorts in their single shot rifles. Even as I kid, I realized hunters have a slight tendency to exaggerate, so was a bit skeptical about them being able to take Quail in flight with head shots - until I saw them doing it.

They are all gone now, but the rifles still exist and have been used by two more generations of shooters, now going on three.

Caj - Good luck bagging those "big" birds with a scattergun ;)

John

Caj, here's a riddle for you in honor of the hunt, although it's about geese, not ducks.
We all know geese fly in a "V" formation. One side of the "V" is always longer than the other. Do you know the reason why?
Surely some wise waterfowl sage on here knows the reason.

The longer side has more geese....Duhhhhhhhhhhh :D
Well, it wasn't pretty. No wind & fog for the first hour. Slow after that. 12 coots 6 teal, a smilin' mallard and a gray. (that was me and my son).
Fishing was better. Two Limits of redfish, 5 nice catfish one flounder and about 2 doz crabs. Boat ran great-life is good.

I'm guessing Caje cooks the books in how he figures the cost per pound of Daffy Duck. He probably only counts the shotgun shells and maybe the gas cost of getting there. If he included the beer expense, the cost would double.

And not to ruin the punch line...When he opened his tackle box, he found his clean socks from last years fishing trip! :)

My son was able to draw a pool reservation at 4-Rivers C.A. for yesterday. This was also opening day of Missouri deer season. One of his buddies had to cancel because of a funeral, so he invited Dad.
My first ever experience duck hunting over decoys. There were 49000 ducks on the area that had been hunted hard for a week. We only got a few groups to even look us over.
Bag was one green-wing teal and I got a pintail. We gave it up about 11 so we could hit our deer stands in the evening.
I could get into this as long as I have three young construction workers to do the hard work.

Wait a minute! You tellin' me you went duck hunting, and came home with two dozen crabs?
Man, I gotta get out of Iowa more often.
