The "Deal or No Deal" Non Registered Magnum

A while back this kiddo was the subject of a thread on this forum entitled "Deal or No Deal" which qusrion the sellability of a gun listed on line.

The gun was listed as a "pre 27" and was wearing "Coke" grips. I posted that I had acquided the gun with my son's assistnce hoping that it was an LEO NRM.

At the Tulsa SWCA symposium, a pre war leength set of stag magnas managed to leap from Kansas Gunner's table, 2 tables down to mine. Mike Helms was operating the SWHF booth and provided a HF Letter on the spot.

So, here he is, waxed but not polished, and wearing a solidd brass T-grip from my Jewelry Box.

Shipped to the Dallas Municipal Employees Credit Union in Dallas City Hall. Interesting that while the rest of DPD was toting 38's the guys guarding the payroll check cashing were armed with magnums.

So, to answer the OP's originql query: "Hell yes! I'll buy just about all the Texas LEO NRMs I can find for $3200 TTL and have a lefover set of Cokes!"

I thought it was interesting that it was delivered directly to the Dallas Municipal Employees CU and did not go to a dealer or distributor first.

As you saw there were 2 guns in this shipment. A single gun was shipped to the CU 2 month earlier. On that one the address also include the term "police department". Here's a copy of th letter on that gun:

A lot of cop guns get a nickel refinish especially in Texas with our sweaty hands. This one was refinished outside the factory. I have 2 FBI carried registered magnums... both shipped blue and both refinished at the factory in nickel. The refinish is a part of the working gun's history. This one has an action smooth as butter and a lockup worthy of Ft. Knox.

University Park PD Chief's gun

Here is it's cousin. A Non-Registered Magnum shipped to the chief of police, University Park, Dallas, TX.

It got a nickle finish at some point in the past as well. As an aside, the chief @ UPPD was the Dallas chief for many years.

Both of my FBI guns are clearly makred on the left side of the grip frame as refinished in nickel by the factory.

And now we know where the first of the 3 credit union magnums ended up after that auction. Interesting that 2 of the 3 were for sale at the same time, one on GI and one on GB.

In doing some research today on newspapers.com I was struck by the number of bank robberies that occured in Texas in the 1935-1940 time frame. This might help explain why the guards got magnums...
