Early letter and early 4" guns

That was one of the things that worried me about the letter. Many people are unfamiliar with the fact that there was a period where Model numbers weren't used. Years ago I thought all 44 magnums were Model 29's, some just had more screws than others. I was worried the guy called Smith and said "Hey I've got this 4" blue Model 29 that I would like to know more about" and the factory just fed this back to him with a ship date and destination without looking up the actual invoice. That's why the call to Roy was so important.

No one disputes that there were earlier 4" guns, but they dont count if you dont know where they are
