The elusive M&P 357sig Full Size

I know that I said I was not going to buy any more than the two M&Ps than I have, the 357 and 9 full size models, but, that full size 45 does seem interesting......hmmmm...

The .45 I have has out shot every small-caliber M&P it's ever come up against. I have to be careful with handloads because it appears to have a short lead or throat infront of the chamber, but other than that it has been a great gun.

Not sure about exact dates- but I do know the older M&P's have STAINLESS in the slide. In my experience, the ones with that mark also still have the smaller diameter sear spring. No biggie- easy fix

They stopped putting "stainless" on the slide sometime in 2012 as far as I can tell. The guns are still stainless. Same composition as they always were. I prefer the cleaner slide with less words on it anyways.

My M&P 9mm FS's don't have it. One is late 2013 test fired, the other is February 2013 test fired.

IMO the later the M&P the better. Lots of gradual improvements. The late 2012 models onward have most of the updates. Current production guns have a more durable finish iirc.

I agree on no manual safety. However, I would like a lower manual safety as an aftermarket option, so it could be "ridden" much like a 1911 safety. This would be especially nice on apex FSS guns, which gives the M&P a class leading competition trigger. Albeit a touch too short and light for defensive use without a manual interlock on trigger movement.

Rags,
I think that I may have been slightly delusional for a moment a bit ago and said "I don't need any more guns...."!!!!
M29since14,
Thank you for that bit of information. See, that is what I am afraid of...another accurate 45, especially made by Smith and Wesson! I had 645 that was a great gun but not accurate enough for me. Now, you tell me that the gun that I was not trying to acquire is worthy of acquiring....
You know, with "friends like you......."

Well, I will have to think on this for a while. She-who-must-be-obeyed has put me on restriction.... Oh it isn't that she objects to my hobby, in fact she assists me init, BUT, she has given me a limit. I have a Class 3 dealer friend who has obtained an 870 SBS for me. The Boss has said "That's it for the year." So, the M&P 45 will have to wait until January 2!!!

Nice score!

If I had my druthers, I would've gotten a 357Sig version - just to have it on the slide - then pick up a .40 barrel for carry and 9mm for range.

Love the M&P interchangeability.
