The end of the A2s in USMC training

Do you know how the Hornady or BH rounds group when shot out of a 16" S&W M&P barrel with the 1:9 twist?
Thanks, Gator.

Both companies tend to make consistent ammunition. However, the only way to really know what your particular gun is going to do is to try them. Most of my guns are 1:7 twist barrels, which would have no problem with a 70 something grain bullet. I think they'd work out of a 1:9 gun, but strange things happen.

I'm still sitting on a bunch of M193 type fmj and some GI Green tip that will last me a long time. The M193 type ammo also usually works well enough, even out of the shorter guns.

Do you have 16" of barrel, or is it a 14.5" bbl with the muzzle device perm. attached to bring it up over 16"? It's usually the SBR type rifles that get even below 14.5" that see people really want the 70 something grain bullets.

It's a true 16-inch barrel, Gator, SKU 811003, this one:

By the way, any recommendation about a sling?

Thanks.

I'd think that a true 16" bbl should give good results with M193 type ball. The advantage there is that this ammunition is much cheaper to stock and practice with than the BH and TAP offerings, which also lack inexpensive practice substitutes in the same bullet weight.

Complaints about short bbl guns came from 14.5" or less ones using GI green tip which was just boring holes in some cases. M193 type ball seemed to still work fine in carbines, going back to the Vietnam era.

I like the Specter SAW slings meant for the M249. Cheap, not a lot to go wrong/be overly complicated, and well padded. Should run about 30 bucks. Two dollar surplus black nylon A2 slings are also perfectly fine for most uses and are easily modified with a bit of paracord and duct tape if someone wants to "improve" upon the idea of a basic two point sling. (Press pause during "Blackhawk Down" and look at how they modified their slings, it's quite accurate as to what was done before the VTAC slings and what not were sold. Still works too.)

Thank you Gator for all of your help! I will post some photos of the rifle and the targets when I get everything set up and in place. You have given me a lot of confidence that I can do this well.
