The S&W ".357" Magnum 1935
The Most Powerful Hand Arm in the World
The Finest Target Revolver Made
Smith & Wesson Accuracy
"The most important handgun developed in the twentieth century." - Roy Jinks

The .357 Combat Magnum 1956
The Combat Magnum story began at Camp Perry in the summer of 1954. Carl Hellstrom, president of S&W asked U. S. Border Patrol shooter Bill Jordan what he considered an ideal law enforcement officer's handgun. Jordan said; K frame, heavy 4-inch barrel and an extractor shroud, target grips, target sights, .357 Magnum caliber.

The .44 Magnum 1956
"Most Powerful Handgun in the World"
1570 Feet per Second, 1310 Foot Pounds of Energy
Elmer Keith encouraged Carl Hellstrom to build it.

Model 53 "The Jet" .22 Centerfire Magnum 1961
22 Remington Jet - 2460 feet per second in a handgun
Dual Ignition - Center or Rim Fire with a Flip of the Thumb

I did not include the Highway Patrolman. To me it is just a utility version of the .357 Magnum and not a new gun.
I did not include the .22 WMR. It is a longer version of the .22 WRF. I think the WRF is a rifle cartridge although there were some Colt revolvers chambered for it. If y'all think the Model 48 should be included maybe I will change the title to the first four centerfire magnums.
