This last week, I acquired a Winchester M97 (US stamped, WWII) and a M1 carbine (Winchester, Korean war), both in very good condition. The M97 cost me $150.00 and the M1 carbine cost me $200.00. I also was able to get 1500 rds of 5.56 mm Nato at 23 cents per round (M855 IMI and M193 LC). In the wings (waiting for confirmation) there is a S&W M27, 3.5 inch blued, 95%, that I may be able to get for $425.00! I'm in Heaven right now! Pictures to follow.

Oh, I forgot, last August, my best friend gave me a S&W M29-2, 6.5 inch, blued, for my birthday!!!! It only has a little holster wear near the muzzle. He carried it as a duty weapon in the mid to late seventies. He didn't need it anymore, and knew that I always desired one. It's good to have good friends that you have known for over 50 years!

I don't know why I deserve such fortune, but I'm glad it's happening.

I just happened to be at the right place at the right time and with the right person for getting the M97 and the M1 Carbine. I was known by the person selling the two guns (along with many other guns from his collection), he knew I could be interested in some of the guns, he was selling the collection to a dealer anyway, so he allowed me to pick out the ones I wanted and he would sell them to me for what the dealer offered him. The dealer offered about 50% of what the dealer figured he could sell them for, so I paid the 50% price. The dealer still got the rest of the collection.

For the M29: I've known the guy for over fifty years and we've been best friends since day one. We've hunted, fished, camped, and shot together, also went to school together from third grade to our first year of college. We've also seen each other through several trials and tribulations in our lives. I'm closer to him than I am to my own siblings. He retired from LE several years ago, and he hasn't shot that M29 in many years. He wasn't using it and knew that I had always admired it, so he gave it to me knowing it was going to a good friend that would appreciate it.

You KNOW we will need to see photographs of these fine firearms, don't you?

I for one am particularly envious of, and anxiously awaiting to see, the 3 1/2" M27.

You REALLY made out like a bandit.

I've always wanted to own a nice M1 carbine, preferably one that saw action in WWII or Korea, but survived in decent shape, and in good shooting condition.

And a getting a Model 29-2 6 1/2" as a gift? Wow. You have a really GOOD friend there. Obviously, you've been a good friend to him, as well.

Enjoy your 'new' guns in the best of health.

I'm waiting for some decent sunshine to take some natural light photos of the guns. Could be a long wait :( , but I will get it done.

The M27 deal is still pending (I almost can't stand the suspense!).

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments.
