... lost another one yesterday. My father-in-law passed away at age 94. He was a pilot in WWII who flew 'The Hump', over and through the Himalayas between India and China in a C-46.

He was one of the most honorable men I've ever known.
This is the China-Burma-India patch he wore.

Sorry for your loss and may he Rest in Peace. Those guys did a fantastically dangerous job.

Condolences, and my heartfelt respect for the man. Flying the Hump was vital, extremely dangerous work.

Prayers on the way for his family, and prayers of thanks for all the men and women who served in that terrible, necessary war.

Sorry for your loss.Treasure the memories and stories because the history is no longer being taught. These men and women must never be forgotten.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Your father-in-law truly a member of the greatest generation!

Sorry for your loss also.

They are leaving us at a high rate won't be long that they will be all gone and I hope history doesn't forget them. I can remember when Albert Henry Woolson (February 11, 1847(?) – August 2, 1956) died he was the last surviving member of the Union Army who served in the American Civil War. He was also the last surviving Civil War veteran on either side whose status is undisputed. Also we should all still remember Frank Woodruff Buckles (born Wood Buckles, February 1, 1901 – February 27, 2011) he was a United States Army soldier and the last surviving American veteran of World War I.

R.I.P. to them all.

The Hump

Radar, seeing that patch, brought back memories of my uncle who also flew the hump. He tried to enlist in the Army Air Force, and was turned down. After being drafted, guess where he ended up! I used to have some of those patches, but in several moves they were misplaced. Thanks for bringing this up. Dave
