"I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but, I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

This is straight out of the USAF Tongue and Quill. It exemplifies what I see regularly on forums like this. We mean something, but are limited by our writing skills and it comes across as something else.

I'm pleasantly surprised here..

Most people seem to make their point as required for understanding Some need to clear up a point or two. Some, you have to ask what in the world they are talking about. A few are professional writers. What you say is definitely a danger and there are many people out there that can't construct a sentence, much less a paragraph. I'm particularly proud to be part of this forum because of it's high literacy level, which is pretty good because communication skills aren't part of the gun nut curriculum. So at least we are 'thinking' gun nuts.

Better Writing Skills Draw Better Responses

I would agree that a lack of writing skills seriously diminishes the ability to effectively communicate. I can tolerate poor grammar, spelling errors and a limited vocabulary but what stops me cold from reading a post and wanting to assist the author is the individual who will write a full page post and never once uses a paragraph break.
