Unless a miracle happens, this will be the last M&P I'll be able to buy:

It's a .40c and has a test fire date of 12/20/2013. It has none of the "new" trigger parts in it and still has a mediocre trigger. Nevertheless, I do like it. I haven't fired it yet, but intend to this weekend.

Coincidentally, I put one exactly like that in jail a couple of days ago. It gets freed on the 8th. Unless the NSSFs law suit overturns the micro stamping law this will be my last as well. By the way, the Apex trigger kit is easy to install.

Every time this topic comes up it just angers me. This kinda thing shouldn't happen to anyone anywhere in this country. I feel for you guys. This makes me pay more attention to proposed laws in my home state. (BTW I was born in CA and went to college there, and was stationed there a couple of times, it's just a shame)

Not to change the topic but, if you have been keeping up with what's going on in Washington you should. If your law makers have their way it will be just like CA before long.

Mixed emotions......glad you got a nice pistol.......hate that you were forced to because of current circumstances. Mine is an "older" model also. The trigger gets better the more you shoot it. Thought about the Apex kit but for my EDC I'll use the stock trigger. Got TruGlo TFO's for Christmas and had em installed with my other Christmas present, a gift certificate to a gun smithing place. Carry a spare FS mag with the x-grip adapter. It carries and shoots very well. You'll enjoy it.....just set aside the thoughts that you were forced into it and have fun with it.

My wife's M&P40c had a 7lb trigger pull before I replaced it with the Apex. Now it's at 5lbs. Unfortunately we haven't had time to go shoot since I did the mod.

I'm sorry that you have to go through that, my suggestion to you is to move as I did 20 years ago and never looked back.

"Miracle" seems like an overstatement. Smith & Wesson could just comply with the CA law. It appears that for less than $1/gun (or some similar small amount) they could meet the requirement. I am pretty disappointed in S&W that they have adopted this position and put CA gun buyers in this situation. My experience with S&W has been that they have great customer service; but, to stop selling guns to CA over an ideological objection has really tarnished their reputation.

I noticed that the M&P 9c I picked up on 12/24/2013 dropped off the roster on 1/16/2014. If anyone wants to check a specific gun, here is the official CA list of guns falling off the roster:

I wonder if this will improve or hurt the resale value of our M&P's? I noticed that a gun shop in my area had a M&P 9c that was like new, but previously sold, in their used inventory for full retail price.

Why are you disappointed with S&W for not giving into this bogus CA pressure? How many hoops should gun manufacturers succumb to because of ridiculous political agendas aimed at disarming you? Where would it stop if they did?

Nice one! Hope you like it! Let us know how it shoots!

I don't blame SW for not selling in Calif. Glock did same thing, exception of the Gen 3.

I would add more to it.. but I would be banned!

Best

This number is political hype and very incorrect. If a manufacturer were to set up to make this change to ALL their guns, then it would be about $4/gun. However, to set up an entire manufacturing process that is different than the normal process is at least 10 times more expensive than that. That means they'd have to invest a huge amount of start up money.

Beyond that, the requirement is stupid. It won't help catch criminals. This is mostly due to the fact that criminals won't be buying legal guns anyway so, their guns won't have the stamping.

As I've said before, if a manufacturer stops selling to LEO and government as well as civilian markets because of this, then I support them. However, if they keep selling to the government then they are part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

Does CA have the 10# trigger requirement?
IF so, you can get a "free state" trigger return spring from Brownells for $3.33. Additionally, a little bit of polishing per Dan Burwell's web site instructions can really make a difference.

..... I am pretty disappointed in S&W that they have adopted this position and put CA gun buyers in this situation....

S&W did not put CA gun buyers in this situation. The CA citizens that elected the current manifest of left-wing legislators did this.

As for the rest of your rant, your straw-man logic does little to no good here.

I own four M&P weapons, the .40c along side of my Shield 40 are my two favorite carry weapons. The 40c has an APEX trigger in it with nice night sights and this is one of the last pistols I would sell. It is dead on accurate and a joy to shoot. The Shield follows close behind because of it's ability to be concealed and carries so nice even in summer attire. It's not a bad shooter either, but bone stock out of the box. I am done buying guns, and am putting my efforts into buying ammo. This is where the leftist will go next to try gun control. They can not take our rights away to bear arms, but guns do no good without ammo to feed them. They will tax the hell out of it to try and control purchases first. Then limit how much you can purchase by regulating how you can purchase it. It is not going to get any better in the future. I can't figure out what to do next, they have already started legalizing drug use in the nation. I just hope that the tax money generated from it doe's away with my property tax as it should. Of course Pot is the number one cash crop in the Good old USA. Now let's see who benefits from it. I would bet that it will not be you or I.

I forgot to add, I got this one at the same time because it will probably be the last Ruger I'll ever get:

Not as much as me. This is the first time I've bought a gun and been angry that I did it. More specifically, angry that I had to.

Wow... nice Ruger.

I just bought my first, and what will be my only M&P45, just last week and felt the same way... not so much angry at the decision that Ruger and S&W made... that was more a deep disappointment.

The anger was with the completely asinine, dumb **s law that precipitated the decision and the hypocritical Governor that signed the legislation into law, that made his millions from his "shoot 'em up" movies using semi-auto pistols we'll not see being sold new in CA for a while.

YOU HAVE MADE EXACTLY TWO POSTS ON THIS FORUM, BOTH TAKING SMITH AND WESSON TO TASK FOR NOT AGREEING TO CONFORM WITH THIS NEW CALIFORNIA LAW.

BOTH POSTS ARE INCORRECTLY STATING THAT S&W IS PULLING OUT OF CALIFORNIA.

AND BY THE WAY, THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES IS MORE THAN AN "IDEOLOGY".

YOUR CITIZENS ELECTED THE FOLKS THAT PUT YOU IN THIS POSITION. TALK TO THEM WHEN YOU CAN NO LONGER FIND THAT WHICH YOU SEEK.

I SWEAR, SOME CALIFORNIANS THINK THAT WHEN THE SAN ANDRES FAULT LETS GO, THEY WILL BE LEFT STANDING AND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY WILL FALL INTO THE OCEAN...

I rather like that S&W is pulling out of CA., along with Glock and Ruger( I think).
Now if they'd do like Roni Barrett did when certain CA. law enforcement types sent in their Barrett .50s. He refused to send them back stating it would be a violation of the CA. State law banning .50 caliber rifles. Then maybe they'd get the message!

To quote others, you guys put those politicians in office. What's sad is CA has a very large population and as a result of that, you guys get to send a lot of representatives to the US House. The last thing the rest of us want are people from CA telling me, a Pennsylvania guy, what I can and can't own. Unfortunately, a lot of these idiotic politicians in the US House and Senate come from more states than just CA...cough, cough NJ, NY, Mass., MD, IL, CT, cough, cough.
