The lock, not a complainer thread.......

I have a 686-6 that has the IL. I have not shot the gun that much and I have just turned the lock in the off position as tight as I could get it and the keys are back in the box.

I have read about the lock failing and locking up guns so they won't fire. Can somebody explain to me exactly what causes this? It is unclear to me if the parts actually break during firing and lock the gun or if the lock gets turned to locked somehow under recoil.

I have read about the plug as far as a solution to remove the lock. Is there any other option as far as disabling the lock but leaving the parts in the gun, but making sure it can't lock on it's own?

Please see the sticky thread at the top of this forum called "lock" we don't need any more lock threads, they have been beat about enough.
