The Magic of the Drift, Drifts On

Mrs. Ellis came home from work one evening to find her three-year-old son lighting up a cigar. She raced into the kitchen where her husband was making dinner. "Hey!" she announced. "This is terrible! I just caught Matthew lighting a cigar!" "You put a stop to that right now," he shouted. "That kid is altogether too young to be playing with matches!"

You'll find just wetting a sponge will over humidify and ruin those sticks in your tupador.

If you have a good tobacconist near by pick up some Boveda humidifying pillows. One or two 65% packs will keep those sticks about perfect for a few months.

No tobacconist out here, good, bad or indifferent.
Hence the reason I get my cigars from gas stations and liquor stores.
However there is this thing called Amazon.com and they have most everything I'll need.
I've been checking out proper humidors.

You are wise beyond your years neechehe.

Where seldom (actually never!!!!) was heard a discouraging word, and we learned about the weather, clouds, sun, rain, wind, heat, snow, cold, every day!!

Snubby, be very careful, I read somewhere that EMU's are still on the prowl, and they favor cigars after one of their nefarious clandestine raids !
Keep the hatchet sharp and close by, in case there are more than six in the raiding party!

find a drug store and pick up some propylene glycol. Mix it 50/50 with distilled water and presoak the sponge. Hopefully that will get you near 70% relative humidity. If your tupador drops below 70% rh that will put off some moisture and taking things back near 70% rh. Unfortunately the 50/50 mix will not suck up excess humidity if the tupador goes above 70%rh. Much passed 70%rh mold becomes a problem. Much passed 75%rh which is where you will get with just water in the sponge and mold and exploding cigars that will drawing like smoking through wood dowel.

Over the years I've settled on 65-67% rh. I use a silica bead in my humidors that keep things dead steady in that range.
