My cat usually steals mine and out of the hamper too. Usually I find the sock with a chew hole in it. I had to get 8 more pair two weeks ago.

If it ain't the cat stealing mine? its usually the gremlins doing the thieving.

Check your pant legs and shirt sleeves. They're known to burrow there, then drop out somewhere.
That's where I get all my gun cleaning socks. Pick em' up all the time.

That's EXACTLY why I'm hesitant to allow dogs lick my face.

I don't have an answer but, I imagine its the same with my cat and socks. After my visits to the gym, I change socks because they are soaked in sweat. I place in a plastic bag, tie it up and put away. I don't get home till hours later, release the still wet socks into hamper, cat jumps in and rubs her face in them. Shasta can be one sick puppy of a cat.
