The most accurate center fire revolver that I have ever fired was a S&W model 27-2 with the 8-3/8" barrel. The most accurate rimfire revolver that I have ever fired was an old 4-screw S&W model 17 no dash (K-22) with a 6" barrel. What was the most accurate center fire and rimfire revolvers you guys have ever fired ?

S&W 25-2 and a S&W 29-2 that was purchased as a 4", then rebarreled in my buddy's garage, (doing everything the wrong way like using a hammer handle through the frame opening to remove the old barrel and put on the new barrel), with a 8 3/8" barrel he bought from J&G back in 1976. I bought the gun from him in 1979 and it is the most accurate revolver I have ever shot.

Sadly, every handgun I fire seems to be inherently inaccurate. :D

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by my 8-3/8" Model 57, which gave me tighter 25-yard groups than I had ever seen from any centerfire revolver the very first time I fired it.

In general, I do well with N-frame .38s, so any .38-44 Outdoorsman, either prewar or postwar, has been a good performer for me.

In rimfire revolvers, a Pre-18 gave me tighter groups out of four inches than I had ever achieved from a six-inch barrel on any Pre-17.

Afterthought: I should add that I do pretty well (and am getting better) with an 8-shot 627-5 PC revolver with a 2-5/8" barrel. This "Blood Work" gun gives me better accuracy than a lot of my longer-barreled revolvers.

I'm purty sure it was my ol' 8 3/8" 29-2 that I used for IHMSA...
A 220 grain Sierra match bullet over a big dollup of 2400 (too much to tell here).

Ten shots, I could cover with one hand on the Turkey target one time. (150m)
Using one chamber...I think I single-handedly caused that rule change to come about.

Even when loading it all the way around, she'd shoot 10" groups on the Rams if I did my part. (200m)

Of course all that was layin down in the Creedmore position.

A 4" 19-4 in the 79K prefix series. Belonged to a shooting buddy. It was truly a "1 inch gun".

I was so impressed I went a found myself one. It is just about as accurate.

Second place would be my PC 586-5 L-comp. A fine example of what the Performance Center was capable of with a revolver. Regards 18DAI

I am by no means a great shot with a handgun. My two range buddies on the other hand could probably shoot the wings off a fly at 15 yards with any revolver they own.I usually hear"What's the matter old man, forget your seeing eye dog?"Then I bought a really used sherrif's dept.686-1 in 4 inch. The new comments were"You been practicing without us?"Can't shoot anything else I own like that old 686.Can't figure out why but really don't care,we always have a good time.As far as .22 cal goes my dad's old H&R 922 is really a great shooter. My 11 year old grandson is very impressive with it.

For me, it is a toss-up between my 4-screw model 1955 and my target model triple lock. Both are excellent guns and just seem to "fit" me.

My 6 inch Model 586-3 and my 6 inch Model 14-2, they make me look better than I am .......

I'll play....... My 1980 Mod 25-5 with a 4" bbl. A tackdriver. For rimfire, believe it or not, I've never shot a revolver, only autos. That being said my Ruger MK111 is VERY accurate.

Over the years I've fired a lot of accurate revolvers. One of my main goals as a reloader was testing and developing accurate loads for my guns. I had a 6 inch model 19-3(IIRC) that was consistantly accurate with a bunch of different stuff. Same for a couple of model 27's and a 28. Generally speaking it was much tougher to develope revolver loads that were much more accurate than factory ammo, out to 50 yards. Although it's tougher to beat factory centerfire rifle now, back in the days it was a lot easier.

Anyway, back to the answer. The most accurate revolver I have ever owned or fired is a 44 special that I purchased from a forum member from Tenn. It is a former GA State Patrol model 28-2 that was converted to 44 special by an unknown source. It has what appears to be a model 1950 6 inch blue bbl and a re-chambered cylinder. It was evidentaly well worn as a patrol gun and it has been refinished at some time and has become less than pristine once again. But don't judge a book by it's cover because this baby will shoot! Except for cosmetics it is in great mechanical shape. I've made a believer out of more than one that doubted it's exceptional accuracy. I've been offered a great deal more than I paid for it, but this gun ain't going nowhere! I've learned my lesson, I hope. No more sellers remorse for me.

I have a 27-2 with an 8 5/8" bbl as well as a 6.5" Model 29 Classic DX that are likely the top two. I'd have to find a Ransom Rest and experiment with loads to know for sure...

8 3/8 629-4 DX, 2nd model HE 44spl converted to target, also a custom 5" 629-2......or any of my Dan Wessons. They all make one hole targets at 20 yards....

Don't even get me started on my Freedom Arms....I just kept it to double actions.

A 6-1/2" barreled Pre-M24 in, .44 Special, of mine which will make a nice
cloverleaf at 25 yards with the Keith 250 g. bullet over 7.0 gr. of Unique.

Colt Python

A Colt Python. Six inch blued made in 1975, bought new in 1975. I have used it in PPC competition for over 20 years. Shooting at 7 yards and 25 yards.
Has a "Deluxe action job" done by the late Austin Behlert from Behlert Precision.
Patridge front sight & Elliason rear sight.

If you think a Python is smooth. This one is the ultimate in smooth.

Sorry S&W guys, most accurate of the ones I've owned is a scoped 9 1/2" barreled 44 Mag Ruger SRH. Off sandbags @ 25 yds, five rounds makes about a 50 caliber hole.

I've got a .45 Colt 5" 25-7 that very accurate, same for a PC 625 also in .45 Colt. With handloads and a .453" Keith SWC both will do 2" at 50 yds with irons and my old eyes on the sights.

But have to say...I've got a Freedom Arms M-83, a dual cyl gun .45 Colt/.454 Cas a 6" ported gun that has given me some very small groups out to 100 yds. A few too small to post for fear of getting ridiculed.

Have found several standard old M-57's and 657's to be great shooters too.
