If only Smith had made the perfect 63 kit gun with the same tapered barrel, but a 3" with a narrow rib like on the 15, 18 and 67. Lighter, more portable etc. Just one of my dream guns. :) Opinions?

Seems to me, either 3" or $' barrle, and a round butt. It is supposed to be a kit gun, not a target pistol. JMO, TACC1.

TACC1, I said 3" and they already are a 4". Joe and I were referring to an 8 shot cylinder.

With the 8 shot cylinder and 3" barrel as you describe it would be almost perfect, just needs a Patridge front sight. (I know won't come out of a holster as well but sure shoots better).

Had a 63 and now have a 2" 34. Perfect little revolver for a kit gun IMO. Very accurate little bugger even with it's 2" barrel. Prefer the SB to the RB on this model. Just feels better in the hand for me.

You have pretty much described my 317-1. I once thought that the 63 was the pefect gun (and still do) but now I'm having second thoughts with this 317-1. Maybe if my 63 was an 8 shot........

CaJ that's what I thought too, a 317 is about what the posters are lookin' for.
Are all 317's a "lock" revolver?

Close, but I ain't gonna give you a cigar on that one Caj. It has to be like the 63 ala STAINLESS. I don't want no crappy aluminum getting all banged up and corroded in my tackle box or old kit bag.:D Besides, I absolutely hate Hi-viz sights, they snag to easily, can break easily and are just plain butt ugly, but that's just me.
