I tried to install a plug in my Model 22-4 and messed it up. S&W had to put my gun back together for which they charged me (as they should), but refused to install the plug. Only gun I have with the lock and I bought it by mistake.

I purchased & installed 3 of them. No problems with the ordering or the installing.

I installed one on my Model 432 without any problems. John Whitt, aka "Bullseye Smith" is a real gentleman - he sent me an early version of the plug that was the wrong size by accident, and then sent me a replacement and insisted I keep the first one for my next lock removal job. I highly recommend "the plug" as I just don't like the IL and if I have my way about it, the 432 will be my first and last IL revolver.

First thing I did with my 329PD was install "The Plug".

When I sent it back to S&W for warranty frame repair, I sent the IL parts back in a bag (keeping the plug parts for myself). It came back with the IL installed again and I just re-replaced it with the plug and life went on.

Buy it and install it, you won't regret it. John is a great guy, albeit sometimes slow to respond and ship, but you'll get it.

FWIW, I put one in my 340PD with no trouble, thanks to "Bullseye Smith" and his plug I have ended my moratorium on buying current production S&W revolvers. After removing that lock, the gun looks stupid with that hole in the frame but thanks to Bullseye Smith and his plug, all is good again. S&W should give him royalties because many people will not buy the new guns with that stupid PC lock that has frozen up some guns during firing.

I installed the Plug on my 642 a few weeks ago. No isssues, gun shoots great. No complaints. If I ever end up with another internal lock, I will be buying another Plug.

I don't have any experience with it, yet. I only have two Smiths with the IL, both 500s. I'm glad this thread was started, reminding me to order two of The Plugs soon, as I understand that all those pesky internal lock flags and miscellaneous parts may accidentally fall out of the revolvers while they are in the safe, and I just can't stand ugly holes in the side of the frame which could allow all kinds of dust, dirt, twigs, marbles, peanuts, bubble gum and other flotsam and jetsam to enter the "inner sanctum" of my guns.

Just removed the lock and installed the plug on my 629 Backpacker and I'm extremely happy with the results.

Sorry that I'm so far behind on this, but I've got a couple questions.

Basically you just remove the whole lock and this plugs the hole? I "fixed" a 640 years ago by pulling out the lock and grinding off the tab. If you pull the whole lock out, does this leave the hammer room to wiggle side to side?

Yes. Yes it does. But plugging a hole can be VERY satisfying.

I agree with OZ.....still looks like a hole with a plug in it. I am still waiting for some ingenious entrepreneur willing to make the investment and create a larger thumb-latch to cover the hole. IF....I should ever need one.

As time passes and the unknowing purchasers enter the market-place, most of them pay no attention at all to the lock, or even know the older guns never had one. It's fast becoming a non-issue with the newbie buyers.
