The Plug

Wait a minute! I saw somewhere, Youtube, I think, a guy who removed the lock, but left the external part that the "key" goes in on the gun.

This would make it "look" like the IL was fully functional, but the lock stuff inside would be gone.

Is that okay or would the part left in be subject to falling back into the mechanism and jamming the works up?

You can tell from my question that I have never (yet) owned a gun with the IL. I am thinking of buying a 638 with the IL since I can't find one without it, though I have offered to pay more than the gun is probably worth.

Yes you can disable the IL by removing a part inside. This leaves most of the IL in place and keeps the hole plugged with the lock mechanism. This gives one peace of mind that the lock won't accidentally engage, and keeps the hole plugged so no junk gets inside, but still leaves that ugly lock showing.

I did this to my 642; I'll do the job properly by ordering a "Plug" as soon as I find a job.
