In a pawn shop on Saturday I spotted a 4043 in the display case.

Why was it so sad? Because someone had Ceracoated it black and pink tiger striped.

I would have taken a picture, but I think some of you might have cried. Besides, they were a pretty busy and I didn't want to waste their time with a gun that they couldn't give me.

$380.00 would be a great price except for the ugly color scheme.

Again, this is the problem with "customizing" a firearm to what I may want, but the rest of the world hates and me spending double the value doing it...

Compounding that then not understanding why everyone tells you it's priced too high?... If it's a stock gun, leave it fairly stock unless it's a PSA AR kit.

Putting pink zebra stripes on anything is going to only appeal to about .00003687% of the gun buying population.

It appealed to the gun store enough to take it in. Can it be stripped off easily?

If what they did made them happy then that’s all that counts. I’m sure they did it with the knowledge it won’t appeal to anyone else and we’re willing to take the hit. And I’m sure they’d be happy to say it’s their gun and no one else’s business and if someone doesn’t like it, no one is forcing them to buy it

I’ve been criticized recently over shooting an unfired 1953 Colt Cobra and my wife criticized over cerakoting her well worn Smith 317 cherry red with blue and pearl grips. Both of us are happy with our decisions and understand the hit we’ll take if we sell them but meanwhile we’re enjoying them.

It might be worth at least taking a closer look. Maybe the finish is one of those "dip" coating jobs. If so, it would be pretty easy to take off.
If it really is a Cerakote finish, then not so much...

I found those "custom" home done finishes are sometimes done to hide extreme finish issues. The gun shop probably wouldn't have taken it in unless they got for a dirt cheap price. I don't believe it would interest me.

While garish, something like that might be of value if you were ever falsely accused of brandishing a gun/threatening with a gun. Have the responding officer(s) ask what color the gun was.
