As many will know, Sinclair Broadcasting got hacked/infected with ransomware earlier this week. Well, it's not even close to fixed. Sinclair own the NBC and CW channel affiliates here, and their news and weather shows have been crippled. Earlier in the week we had the weather on a whiteboard, but the graphics returned on Wednesday. Still no green screen stuff, which is a big disappointment as I don't get to see so much of the lovely Kelly. Local OB recorded clips are absent. Maybe the stations didn't keep their old tape stuff or nobody knows how to use it.
Last night it came to a head on the CW News at 10 when the talking head suffered the wrong clip in the first segment followed by him being left hanging with no clip or script. His straight face was failing when he said, "We're waiting on advice from the producer on what to do next". Shortly after that they took a feed from The National Desk setup, but that has problems, too. Felt a bit sorry for the talking head, Reed Cowan, as he is one of the better TV presenters IMHO. He was excellent during the Olympics.
It's interesting that the other local stations have said nothing about the event. I'm guessing their IT folks are working overtime right now trying to get the edges bolted down.
